Tokyo Haneda slot - how will Virgin Operate it?

This visiting American recently posted up his review of the CNS-HND route (although he travelled back in mid/late 2023). He travelled BNE-CNS-HND with a 3 hour layover in CNS.

Rex launches its own frequent flyer program (in October 2023)

Interline between EY and ZL just came online after being announced months ago. Although not surprisingly the EY6600+ series VA domestic codeshares are cheaper. https://www.australianfrequentflyer.com.au/community/threads/rex-and-eithad-announces-interline.113140/#post-2692800

Rex launches its own frequent flyer program (in October 2023)

ZL has interlines with both DL and EY. At this stage, ZL only confirmed plans to upgrade the DL interline to a formal FF partnership.

Velocity Frequent Flyer launches partnership with DiDi

I bet if Qatar was to buy a 20% stake into Velocity, you would be first to complain on the forum :)

    Bonza Airline Discussion

Compass, Impulse (AOC used to form JQ-d), Ansett 1.0 (and regional subsidiaries which is now REX), Ansett 2.0, OzJet (blip), Strategic/Air Australia (blip), Virgin 1.0 (including Tiger) in that order IIRC

    Bonza Airline Discussion

More likely Nauru got a better wet lease contract/deal and/or Bonza was allegedly behind on wet-lease payments. Wet-leases don't come cheap.

    VA2.0 International Partners

Still listed as a Velocity redemption partner. However, a secondary partner (i.e not the 'Top Tier' of QR, UA, SQ and supported by AC and NH). https://www.velocityfrequentflyer.com/partners-offers/airlines/hong-kong-airlines

    Bonza Airline Discussion

Can't see any interested parties buying out AB in full. Maybe PAG and/or Bain are waiting for it to "fall over" before declaring interest in the 737-8 leases for REX or Virgin if the Lessors are to 'repo 'those aircraft.

    VA lounge in Cairns

Batik Air, Virgin Australia's direct 'Value Carrier' rival in the region doesn't provide lounge access for most international routes, only on selected international routes (through Contract lounges) out of DPS and CGK (both ID/OD) on the most expensive fares and some selected overseas contract...

Which international airline just pulled out of SA? (South Australia that is 😁)

There are reports going around that Batik Air Indonesia will be pulling their remaining 2-3x weekly ADL-DPS flights from July 2024, completing the withdrawal of the Batik group from ADL. This leaves JQ as the only airline on ADL-DPS non-stop. On a related note, VA may potentially re-instate...

Qatar Airways may buy Virgin Australia in full - what are the consequences?

While we're at it, EY's new management makes a bid for and acquires Alliance Airlines.. :)

    CNS Airport international lounge

It may depend on whoever the 'Cornerstone Investor' may be in VA from a trade sale, if there is one in the future. Otherwise, it's stay the course with the VA's Value Carrier/LCC approach mandated by Private Equity which largely follows the Euro legacies and the Domestic/Short Haul Int'l of the...

Qatar Airways may buy Virgin Australia in full - what are the consequences?

^^ Agreed. QR being a 'cornerstone investor' in VA with 20% at most in a direct trade sale with Bain (per current regulations), with FIRB approval.

Qatar Airways may buy Virgin Australia in full - what are the consequences?

Well I do remember one theory of ol SQ buying out Velocity (only) and integrating that in Krisflyer, considering Velocity was the most profitable part of the VA 1.0 group business.

Qatar Airways may buy Virgin Australia in full - what are the consequences?

Air New Zealand was then owned by Brierley Investments with SQ holding a minor stake in NZ in Ansett's final years. There was no NZ government involvement until they had to bail NZ out of trouble (which included taking a majority stake) from the Ansett fiasco...

Qatar Airways may buy Virgin Australia in full - what are the consequences?

Whilst UA buying VA would be an interesting scenario, can't see UA past a minor stake at best. Darkhorse could be DL pulling off a LATAM (i.e taking them away from AA) in Australia to get 'VA back' (from UA) , but I don't see that happening either. DL are largely only expanding in Australia...

Qatar Airways may buy Virgin Australia in full - what are the consequences?

It's usually the "Will VA join Star Alliance" followed by the ol "SQ will TAEK OVAH VA !!!111!1!!!111".. "FOR REAL TIHS TIEM !!!!11" back in the pre-Administration and briefly post-Admin eras. ;) Saying that, on a tad serious opinion, can't see QR buying VA in full, cornerstone investor at 20%...

How will Velocity respond to Qantas FF changes (new Classic Plus rewards)

On a related note, VA 1.0's old/former JVs (NZ, EY, DL and briefly HX) also cost a fair bit of money as operating costs are split 50/50 between partners, even if a carrier isn't operating any metal at all in the JV (i.e the QF/EK JV). The old JVs (usually) had more reward seat availability then...

    Qantas - new SYD-AKL-YYZ 787 service rumours

All Bamboo 787s were leased when Bamboo had them so unless if the Lessors sold them, they are assumedly leased.

VA through checking bags to SQ on separate bookings?

From past posts, VA generally doesn't through-check on separate bookings, even on partners. You'll be required to collect your bags in BNE Domestic and take them with you to BNE International to re-check in.
