D-Day 8 Oct for Ezy Mastercard

You did well. We tried to get last 4490 points transferred when we cancelled card. After several arguments they transferred 4000 points (to 2000 FF points). (We're supposed to be grateful because normally 5000 minimum transfer.) Didn't try to argue for full 1:1 transfer - didn't think we'd have...

28° Mastercard Cash Advances while overseas [No more free cash advances from 1/1/14]

What is Virgin costing you? Did you know that Citibank Gold is currently free for life, and pays 1 FF point per dollar spent? I've heard that thier service sucks, but the only issue I have is they seem to treat every call like a telemarketing opportunity - they won't do as you ask until they've...

28° Mastercard Cash Advances while overseas [No more free cash advances from 1/1/14]

Right No. So long as you keep from ever having a +ve balance owing, you won't pay interest. Nor fees. Nor FX penalties. The only problem for me is that I can't take advantage of 55 days interest free on credit purchases if I'm doing this. (Everytime I want to withdraw cash, I have to pay off...

28° Mastercard Cash Advances while overseas [No more free cash advances from 1/1/14]

Wizard also has no FX fee, so we're using Wizard for ALL international trans. What does CitiBank charge? I assumed it would be more than the FF points are worth??

28° Mastercard Cash Advances while overseas [No more free cash advances from 1/1/14]

I've given a Wizard card to my daughter to use in US, and she's using it for ATM withdrawals well as credit transactions, without incident. (She didn't have to search for any specific ATM or anything. Maybe she just got lucky??) I try to keep the account in debit when she needs to withdraw...

D-Day 8 Oct for Ezy Mastercard

I just activated my new free Citibank Gold card. I don't know whether I was talking to a machine or a person robotically reading a script (honestly) but it was every bit as bad as a telemarketing call. I would have slammed the phone on the table until they hung up like I do to telemarketers...

D-Day 8 Oct for Ezy Mastercard

Here's 1! Does it say anything in terms and conditions about not earning 1:1 points after statement before 6th October? It will be interesting to read how they manage to word that. No matter, they'll still cop an ear full when I get my next statement and try to do my final transfer.

D-Day 8 Oct for Ezy Mastercard

Interesting that they'll waive the 3600 minimum, but not the 500 block requirement. We got stuck with 490! But we also have thousands of points due since last statement, so intend making quite a fuss about getting a frequent flyer point for each and every last one of them. The way I see it...

D-Day 8 Oct for Ezy Mastercard

Dunno whether CBA card is any better than Citibank, but I like free for life better than free for a year. So I say stick it CBA. I much prefer to turn my back on businesses that try to screw me.

D-Day 8 Oct for Ezy Mastercard

Amen. There was no decent replacement for the Ezy card. I ended up going Amex, but probably would need a back-up MasterCard or Visa. Then tada, I free card with 1 FF point per dollar spent. It seems too good to be true. I'm glad I got my Amex 1st year free - I might not want it anymore!

    B E S T Award point systems Qantas FF

If you've relied on Ezy's travel insurance you've been lucky never to need it! (It doesn't cover very much at all.) I'm in the same situation. I've done a lot of calculations on annual fees vs points I'll earn, and decided on the Amex Rewards Maximiser (free 1st year, then $192 pa; + $36 per...

    Best Website for ticket purchases?

I'll have to try out the sites you've listed, thanks. I've used flight centre and jetabroad.com and whatever else I find when googling "cheap flights", but I was surprised to see the Amex travel page was cheaper. eg best price I could find Brisbane to LAX return over Xmas was $5403, but Amex was...

CC best suited for foreign currency transactions?

I've make a few US transactions on Wizard and the exchange rate is around 1/2 % higher than XE.com - The World's Favorite Currency and Foreign Exchange FX Site. I think that's pretty good, but not sure whether "free" is entirely honest or not. Earth+ also say they don't charge any fees, but do...

Wizard Clear Advantage "free international transactions"

I read a post somewhere that Wizard's exchange rate is better than somebody elses. Are there any rules as to what exchange rate they use? What is XE.com - The World's Favorite Currency and Foreign Exchange FX Site I noticed Wizard charges at least 1/2 % higher than this. I'm not really...

D-Day 8 Oct for Ezy Mastercard

Yeah, goodbye Ezy you were good while it lasted. Makes me cry that a big chunk of my points will get eaten away my fees now. I've decided on Amex Rewards Maximiser, and a Citibank Gold if necessary... or it sounds like Silver will do the job. But I'm hoping Amex is accepted more widely these days.

There's a new card in town

I've changed my mind about Earth. I'm going with Amex Rewards Maximiser. The extra 1/2 point per dollar will more than cover the higher fee. I have a free mastercard with no points for when it's rejected, but if it's too much I'll get a Citibank mastercard. Again, the full point per $ spent will...

    AMEX 17,500 points offer

How often do they do deals like this? I was just about to apply for a Rewards Maximiser, but I could hold off a month if there's any chance I'd get an offer like that.

    Chasing the perfect credit card

My maths is attrocious. I don't understand all these flight types... can you search for particular types?? But for the flight I'm interested in, they seem to be worth just under 3c. I've decided the Rewards Maximiser is best value for me, especially being free first year. I'll see how it's...

    Chasing the perfect credit card

Thanks, I did stuff up my figures. The $5403 was for 2 return tickets Brisbane - LA. The 96,000 points was for the first leg - there were no seats available for the return. So FF points are worth something like 10c then?? Great. :D

Booking reward flights with the Amex Platinum card

Ah, I'd ignored that part. Does that include international flights? Can I get the lowest prices purchasing direct from Qantas, rather than going through Flight Centre or whoever, or would I have to pay full price?
