Been a couple of weeks so the crew had a pizza bash to watch the rugby....turned into another.....well you know by now:oops: Some fabulous wines on offer. We were all looking forward to the 78 Grange thanks to ol'mate celebrating the sale of his business. It didn't disappoint! Still years of...

W&D, myself and the ol'mate crew have been comparing notes as we go, only another few hundred bottles to go:shock::D. We are experiencing probably a 10-15% failure in corks but the better wines seem to have held up, with the odd surprise along the way.... tbh older wines well into secondary...

Wading through the oldies saw another find..Yalumba Menzies Cabernet 1989. Not a particularly good vintage, has seen better days....cork came out well, almost translucent ruby in colour, surprisingly fruity aroma on opening, with enough going on to be highly enjoyable....

Trying not to gush...but this 1992 Kalimna popped a bit of wow.....Cork was in superb nick, drinking like a youngster...the wine not me..:lol: masses of fruit still remaining on the back of American oak, only the tell tale bricking giving its age away..at a tenner a bottle in its day ... its...

A couple of nice wines since Easter...interspersed between the quaffers. Corks are a major issue with these older wines...will be great to see what the Stelvin does for 25-30yr wines...once decanted, they tend to open up and evolve quite quickly before peaking and then dumbing down.....just as...

A couple of bottles last night with the regular crew of four, served blind as usual. WOTN was a tricky choice.....Signature 08 absolutely singing and a step up from the 05, the 02 Darkie totally belying it's age and the 04 St Peter for the divine nose and elegance.

Couldn't find the "Can't take a trick thread"... two duds in a row :mad: Both going back for replacements. Corks both in excellent shape. Classic Clare Cabernet 2001 - So much Brett undrinkable D'Arenburg Dead Arm 2003 - Corked beyond - Soggy cardboard with nothing beneath - sink fodder.

A couple of nice wines last week...the standouts were GB Meshach 2005 - One of my go to wines...powerful.. rich... intoxicating...lashings of coconut...massive fruit sweetness but far from cloying with the oak mellowing behind it - absolutely delish!!!! Dalrymple Pinot 2013 - Huge on a pinot...

My epicure order arrived safe and sound.Burnt a bunch of points that were idle.......always wanted to try the Vanya which is already earmarked for opening 2024...

A few good bottles continue to be had over the break... Brown Bros Patricia 2002 ...right in its window, gorgeous full bodied Victorian, chocolate sweetness, well rounded and nice vanilla on the finish...made the years top 10. Leasingham Classic Clare Cabernet 2001- Another in the zone...

Not quite in the same league as above...but this weeks quaffs went down nicely. Wynns Black 2004 Cabernet - medium bodied, travelling well as 2nd of six. Certainly no bruiser, violets with soft rounded palette...good. Heathcote Estate Shiraz 2007 - No idea where I got this, Med to full...

Saturday delivery...another six pack bought with the $50 langtons voucher and CR...not so sharp at $39 del...availability/demand was the issue, but well pleased to have a few for the future.
