Getting the Most out of flybuys?

Re: Not enough FlyBuys points - so what good is it? "Cheapest" Movie Voucher Rewards are 11,000 points for 5 x Hoyts. There's a couple of Reward offerings for about 10,000 points - but that's it for now. Expiring points mean that my tally of 6,200 points will drop back to 3,866 by the end of...

    International Driving Permits

All I can say is I am glad that I had a (correctly completed) IDP on me. From what I've heard the Thai jails are overflowing with about: - 99.00% local criminals - 0.99% western paedophiles - 0.01% westerners that didn't bother to take (or check) their IDP's Not somewhere I want to spend even...

    International Driving Permits

LOL Mal, I tend to agree with that. Bit of a bonanza for the Automobile Associations - quite a steep fee for a limited amount of paperwork. Also be careful that the IDP is correctly completed! If I wasn't on the ball, the IDP would have been issued without refernce to the Motorbike endorsement...

    International Driving Permits

Thanks Dave. Sort of like a taking an acceptable "Translation Dictionary" with the Drivers Licence itself?

    International Driving Permits

maninblack, did anybody claim that it was a "legal document"? I have a Card issued by my local video store that comes in very handy if I feel like taking home a movie. But I bet you I can walk into that store with other forms of "identification" and take home any DVD that I want. It just takes...

    International Driving Permits

From recollection, I believe there is a list of countries you should carry an IDP with the licence? :?: I've presented both for a rental and when pulled over once (probably just a random check on a farang) in Thailand. Don't know which one they actually looked at (neither was written in Thai)...

    AMEX not accepted or surcharge

Re: AMEX not accepted or surchage ozstamps, I have no doubt your experience with them has been a positive one. Nor that they have thousands, or even millions (worldwide) of happy and loyal customers - otherwise they would not have survived this long. Getting back to the main theme in this...

    AMEX not accepted or surcharge

Re: AMEX not accepted or surchage one9, I don't know if it's really relevant but I managed a Licenced Brothel/Escort Agency for 5 years. It's been several years since I got out, but my understanding is that Amex still insist that all Operators in this industry must sign this insidious document...

    AMEX not accepted or surcharge

Re: AMEX not accepted or surchage Agreed, but that's probably another issue outside the scope of this thread. The difficulty is that neither company would readily disclose which merchants are paying what rate. What I found outrageous with Amex was that they insisted on an Extended Recourse...

    AMEX not accepted or surcharge

Re: AMEX not accepted or surchage To settle this debate, I will refer once again to the graph that I posted here a few weeks ago: These are "official" RBA statistics, albeit I have yet to find the more up-to-date ones. Ozstamps is correct in pointing out that Amex offers merchant rates well...

    BP Mastercard

I haven't seen any e10 fuel in Melbourne yet, so I'm not exactly going to be pulling into any BP stations soon - unless there's no choice in the matter. As far as I know only United Petroleum carry an Ethanol blend in all Service Stations and theirs is 4c/litre cheaper than unleaded - not BP's...

    AMEX not accepted or surcharge

Re: AMEX not accepted or surchage It depends so much on the specific circumstances of the business. In my case I was offered an Amex Merchant Service Fee around 6%, the gross margin (before business overheads) averaged only about 40%, demand was relatively price sensitive and most Amex...

    AMEX not accepted or surcharge

Re: AMEX not accepted or surchage I'd expect any reputable Merchant would give you the choice. And I'm sure the ACCC would have something to say if the store policy wasn't well signposted. A surcharge of 2.3% or 2.5% seems to be comparatively low compared to some of the Amex Merchant fees...

    AMEX not accepted or surcharge

Re: AMEX not accepted or surchage Amex charge their Merchant fees on a sliding scale, but they are often more than double what the Banks will charge for Bankcard/Visa/Mastercard. And depending on the industry, this could be up to 10% of the transaction value! The merchant therefore needs to...

Getting the Most out of flybuys?

Re: Not enough FB points - so what good is it? Thanks for the welcome and all the feedback. Looks like I'll stick with it for a bit longer. [....holds breath in baited anticipation]

Getting the Most out of flybuys?

Not enough FlyBuys points - so what good is it? I've been signed up on the program for about 3 years which is only about as long as the points last, so they're now dropping off as expired. The FB card gets used fairly regularly; mainly the regular grocery shopping and at Shell if using the 4c...
