How do aircraft stay in a straight line during takeoff? Do you steer using rudder input while at high speed on the ground? Thanks

On the Flightradar24 site I've noticed that on a few occasions the U.S. leg (LAX-JFK) of QF11 is being flown by an A380. Is this true? I thought that this route was exclusively flown on the 747. Perhaps it's an error on their end. Again, thanks for all of the info!

Hi JB. I was watching an episode of Ultimate Airports Dubai the other day and they had a segment about an A380 trainee, they basically followed his progress from the first sim sessions to his first flight in the right seat. He mentioned that the plane felt a bit different than in did in the...

JB, when performing an auto-land in windy conditions, is the aircraft able to crab and de-crab itself?

JB, does the A380 coughpit have an HUD display? Thanks

So who would sit on the left while the captain is away, the FO?

    Ask The Pilot

JB, do you think you'll ever be taking an A380 to JFK or Toronto one day? Hopefully that's not too much of a company question.

Is the decision to go around more of a gut feeling on the captain's part that something is wrong, or is it more of a technical decision? Thanks

Are there always two pilots in the coughpit, or is it acceptable for one pilot to fly while the other rests? Thanks JB

    Ask The Pilot

JB, how do the flight crew decide who's doing radio duty? Most of the coughpit videos i've watched have the FO talking to ATC. Thanks

That's interesting, thanks. They're red on the A380 coughpit panorama on the airbus site.

JB, what are those two red buttons/lights on the center window frame of the airbus coughpit for? Thanks

I was wondering this myself. I'm currently staying near Toronto Canada, it was pretty close to -50 Celsius last week. It seemed a lot or local flights were canceled, but the long haul flights were mostly a go (Emerates A380, DXB-YYZ for instance flew in and out during an ice storm) What is it...

I'm not sure if this is part of the reasoning for using nitrogen in airplane tires, but i know that nitrogen doesn't expand as much as air does when heated. I guess if the tires heat up, it would keep the pressure more consistent.

How is ground speed actually measured? From my understanding, pitot tubes measure airspeed. There'd have to be some reference point on the ground to measure ground speed right? Thanks JB

There was a tahitian man who survived an 11 hour trip inside the gear bay of an air france 747. That must've been one hell of a ride... I have a question about flight voice/data recorders. Do airlines use the recorded data for training purposes at all? Would the data be used to give a pilot...

I believe the idevices use Lithium ion polymer batteries. I guess they're considered safe enough to use in flight. Apple announces iPad battery meets AC 120-76B standards - iPad Pilot News
