I've got the Altitude Black card and AmEx Platinum. I've been having points transferred to Altitude points (not airlines). The new deal is a backward step for me.
When converting to a gift card, the earn rate is currently $11,300 spend per $100 voucher.

I should add to my above post that I found another combination that better suits me.
They have an AmEx Platinum card with a $49pa fee. It earns less points (2 per dollar) than the black ($3 per dollar) but the lower annual fee is a better result me.

It seems that the 12,000 points expired at the end of April and now the current offer is 10,000 points :(
I certainly take the point about them hiding the annual fee - very poor. From what I read, their "rewards" fee ($55pa) is per card too. Ouch.

That's certainly an idea. I have relatives in the UK. I've got no plans to visit them but they would gladly forward any mail to me.
