Where would you be now ... ?

Would have been in Dubai for a few days before heading onto Amsterdam for a Dealer meeting and Trade Show (now both cancelled). Have to now attend the Dealer meeting virtually which is not nearly as much fun as drinking fresh Heinekens in Amsterdam. Will also miss the tulips at this time of...

Points Count [How many do you have?]

yes you are right, points accumulation is like an addiction with the rush being just seeing that number get larger, but this all crashes down when you start trying to use them for travel when YOU want to go.

Points Count [How many do you have?]

I had 1.1M QFF pts until I redeemed a couple of tickets for next week up to HKG and return in F and J. Now down to around 750K pts. Which should be topped up the 1M again soon with some tax payments and large CC spends. I have had my own business for the past 40 years and all pts are earned...

    Please take out Travel Insurance

I suffered a heart attack in Denver, CO last year and had an annual TI policy underwritten by Chubb. I showed my policy when I was admitted into the ER as I was wondering about "up front payments" too. They seemed quite happy I had insurance and they forwarded their invoices to my insurer. It is...

    Learn from this one

I was lucky I was in a "first world" country where communications are excellent. I was asked when entering the Emergency dept about what insurance I had and I did take a copy of my travel insurance policy with me, as I had expected this question. I did, however, feel that I would receive good...

    Learn from this one

I had to claim on my travel insurance last year when I suffered a heart attack in the US. I required bypass surgery and you can imagine the hospital bills were significant (around A$400K). I had disclosed my pre-existing condition of Type II diabetes however fhe insurance company then insisted...

Strong signals that the USA and Cuba to normalise relations.

My brother just called me again today from Havana. He said the Americans are really starting to invade so it may not be long before Cuba changes for the worse as these tourists start to shape how tourism currently works over there. I am sure prices will get driven up as demand increases. As...

Strong signals that the USA and Cuba to normalise relations.

My brother emailed yesterday saying the first US flotilla of pleasure craft arrived at Hemmingway marina earlier this week. 60 boats in all including 5 x 16ft Hobie cats that sailed down in a race. Crazy sailors.

ATO (tax office) payments by credit card

But you will only get 1 KF pt per 2 Altitude pts. I just swept 55,000 Altitude across to Kris as I couldn't see much other use for them.

ATO (tax office) payments by credit card

It would seem that some members here are talking about paying seriously large amounts to ATO, not just the odd few hundred $$. I would firstly question what credit limits some members have on their cards or if they prepay to the CC before charging the ATO debt against their card ?? My recent...

ATO (tax office) payments by credit card

Forgot to mention with the Westpac cards you need to specify if you want the Altitude Points or the QFF points when you sign up. And no I never discussed the ATO FF points issue with the CC company.

ATO (tax office) payments by credit card

There still seems to be plenty of confusion about the current status of which cards can earn FF points when paying ATO bills. I just called Westpac yesterday about adding an Altitude Black Amex card to the Black MasterCard I already have (no extra fee) , as the MC doesnt give me a very good FF...

ATO (tax office) payments by credit card

Correct me if I am wrong here but reading the ANZ T & C's mentions: "1.Qantas Points and Bonus Qantas Points accrue in accordance with the ANZ Frequent Flyer Reward terms and conditions (please call 13 13 14 for a copy). Purchases exclude fees, cash, cash equivalent transactions, balance...

Strong signals that the USA and Cuba to normalise relations.

My brother has just moved to Havana to live. Despite the announcements, nothing much is changing yet. It will be interesting to get his reports from 'on the ground' there to hear whats really happening. But communications are still woeful with very slow internet and a very average phone system...

Currency conversion - better to sell in foreign land or buy it in Aus?

I too can vouch for OZFOREX as I have used them extensively for business transfers for the past 8-9 years. I also have their MasterCard TravelCard which I pre-load with various currencies then can either withdraw via an ATM or use as a debit card. It saves carrying large qtys of cash and you...
