AirNZ direct flight cancellation - Syd to Rarotonga and no business class replacement

Pretty bad. The staff were fairly rude about the closure and not letting us though until about 3-4 in the morning also (can’t remember as I was so tired). Exactly the reason we tried for the direct flight. We were jet lagged for a few days following. Not a good start. A shame because generally...

AirNZ direct flight cancellation - Syd to Rarotonga and no business class replacement

We flew with them once pre-covid and they were OK. No frills for sure (meal option was "a pie or a chicken thigh"). They used to be top 10. Skytrax (AirNZ and others debate their methodology, but were happy to accept when they were up the top of the ranking), has them at number 30 now. I have...

AirNZ direct flight cancellation - Syd to Rarotonga and no business class replacement

We had already bought a couple of Luxury Escapes packages to stay at Pacific Resort on Aitutaki and has purchased our Air Rarotonga flights. We were travelling with our neighbours also. No backing out unfortunately. We still enjoyed ourselves but AirNZ continued to fail all the way along. I will...

AirNZ direct flight cancellation - Syd to Rarotonga and no business class replacement

Yes we were a bit excited to be doing a direct flight again. We used to fly direct from Bris before Virgin had their COVID issues. An option with AirNZ is to go from Melbourne if they are still doing some direct flights. Our friends went in September. They only had weekend flights. This may not...

AirNZ direct flight cancellation - Syd to Rarotonga and no business class replacement

We booked some time back with AirNZ on a direct flight Syd to Rarotonga on business class. The flight was cancelled. They booked us on an economy ticket via Auckland with about an 8 hour stop in the airport. We would arrive a day later and miss our flight to Aitutaki. They booked us on the most...

On retiring, what new things did you start...

Doc or department of conservation in New Zealand are always after volunteers. You can find their website and fill in an application for anything that takes your fancy. A great way to have a holiday at the same time. I went for a couple of weeks on an island where some of the kakapo are. I...

On retiring, what new things did you start...

I’m 48 and we started our retirement about 2-3 years ago. We used to rent apartments out short term while doing two jobs. We stacked the money away and then decided it was too much. Holidays were hard. We’d need to organise friends or family to help but generally we still on call overseas. I...

MEL First lounge joins PER RSA push

Re the SYD service I have always found the Accor staff quite indifferent (in both lounges). Certainly not what I would expect. I experienced the new Etihad lounge recently and found it far better service wise.

Splitting a rewards flight for a stopover - same points?

Thanks for your responses. We have had a hell of a time getting through to Virgin and have been getting conflicting information. Their new system doesn't have all the options for flights up on the website as yet so we had to get it done via phone. We ended up not trying for a stopover because...

Splitting a rewards flight for a stopover - same points?

We are trying to book to a flight to Dublin using VA points. Etihad flies there and we'd like to do a stopover for 2-3 days. Are we able to split the flight without paying the higher price for 2 separate legs? We can't seem to find a way at this stage.

Best VA points usage for SYD - LHR and/ or SYD- MAN/ LPL - using Etihad perhaps?

Thanks re the Dublin tip. I hadn't considered that. Def will fly EY. I can't believe how many fewer points you need to use with Etihad in comparison to VA. It's as if they are forcing you away from them. A very odd strategy as as far I can see it must dilute your brand.

Best VA points usage for SYD - LHR and/ or SYD- MAN/ LPL - using Etihad perhaps?

Thanks. We were def going to book online rather than by phone if possible and I knew the website was having a few issues also. When the site was up it seemed that we could get each leg in Etihad economy for 125,000 yet VA was considerably more and with higher taxes. We did like the idea...

Best VA points usage for SYD - LHR and/ or SYD- MAN/ LPL - using Etihad perhaps?

We have approx 600,000 points with VA as a result of flights and points transfers (using Amex points bonus transfer deals). We need to fly to the UK for friend's wedding (between Liverpool and Manchester), on 1 Aug and are planning a 3 week trip so we can have a look around Liverpool/...
