That is what I experienced as well on an even longer flight from LHR to SYD via BKK. Old 747 aircraft, flickering small screen, terrible entertainment and horrible food...

Awesome trip report! I just came back from a Virgin Australia flight Melbourne-Sydney-Rockhampton and I must say I enjoyed it more than my previous Qantas flights. Yes, you have to pay for food and entertainment but they have nice new Embraer and Boeing aircraft in contrast to many Qantas...
