Where are you going in 2018?

***** No plans at present, but can fully recommend our Wendy Wu Land of the Dragons tour back in SeptCathay Pacific flights were fine as was the bullet train option.

Business class - worth the points?

How about the intermediate class? We flew Cathay Pacific Prem Econ MEL to LHR and were happy. I later flew Bus Class on Jetstar MEL- Bangkok (not paid by me) and noted that the seats were identical to the Cathay Pacific prem econ.

Singapore Airlines Premium Economy - opinion

Last year we flew Premium Economy on Cathay Pacific, Melbourne to London. We had no complaints and found the leg room and width great. Interestingly, I thought the seats were exaxtly the same design as those I flew on Jetstar International Business Class MEL to Bangkok

QF PNG Visa failure and who is to blame?

I am an AUS citizen and flew into Port Moresby from Brisbane in 2014 as a tourist. I do not recall anything about a visa. I have just checked my passport - it has nothing in it from PNG.

"Australia? ..... Never Heard of It"

On my US travels, I have never heard anything but "Australia? I'd really like to go there but it is such a long way to go". My response is "Well I came here"!

    What are airports missing?

I agree that it would be nice to have some laydown type seating to have a nap. Lying on the floor is not very dignified nor that comfortable.

    Premium Economy Dilemma...

Flew PE Cathay Pacific A330 MEL to LHR- and will do so again, for all the reasons above. Flew Jetstar on a 787 MEL to BKK, Business Class- also OK- I reckon the seats are the same as those in PE on Cathay Pacific.

    The totally off-topic thread

Walk out to the LA Bus Depot and get the trolley to Manhattan Beach: a pleasant place to wander around. The trolley route goes on to a large shopping mall. It is a couple of years since I used it but you could check if it still runs.

If you could give just ONE piece of advice......

I wonder if awards schemes are really worth it? I fly less now since I retired from full-time work, an find that I go for the lowest price rather than stay "loyal" e.g. amazing low price to UK from AUS Royal Brunei this week!

    The totally off-topic thread

I think there is a trolley from the LA bus depot at LAX to Manhattan Beach (check its name) and further on the circuit a shopping mall.

    The totally off-topic thread

Here is something I learnt this month on a trip to PNG. I used my Travel Money Card twice to get 400 kina each time. At POM airport, the Bank South Pacific branch charged me $A191.60. Later I used the ANZ ATM in my hotel. I was charged $A202.90. (Both times the access fee was $A3.50)...

    What Have I Done....Regret Booking

I have flown Melb or Sydney to LA in 747 or 777 aircraft, and onwards several times mostly in economy. I got bumped up to business class twice and that made the longest flight a bit more tolerable. However you travel it is a long flight and you do need patience and ability to relax. I read a...

Currency conversion - better to sell in foreign land or buy it in Aus?

On my last trip, I used USD cash, and a CBA travelcard. Having read that the AUSD was going to dive by the time we left, we got the money loaded 6 months early. The AUSD did not change much, so in the end, our attempt at minor currency speculation was a flop! Also took a card for our...

How wealthy do you need to be to buy your own J or F ticket?

I find that long distance flying is long and boring, and whether in economy or business I sleep no better. I have only flown business I think 3 times when upgraded unexpectedly. It was nice, especially one time when a more senior colleague flying was not upgraded!

How long does an International Drivers Licence last?

Got an IDP when I lived in the UK for two years. Never bothered since and have driven in the UK again, Ireland, France, USA. Even the car rental places do not want to see my VIC driving licence (an advantage of being a Hertz Gold member I guess).

    Airline Safety

Not on safety as such, but related! USA trip, Nov-Dec last, by VA MEL to LAX, then to FLL, and return trip 2 weeks later. When we collected our bags in MEL, both the the KORJO "TSA" type locks had gone. Nothing in bags had been disturbed. I thought these locks were openable by TSA whereupon...

Will we ever see pilotless commercial aircraft?

Re: Ask The Pilot Reminds me of an old story. Plane is about to take off, and over the PA "Ladies and gentlemen, you are about to fly in a pilotless aircraft. Yes, we have no human pilot, but rest assured that with our computer-controlled system nothing can go wrong...go wrong...go wrong...go...

Purchasing US dollars now for a round the world trip in 2014

I am travelling to the USA in November, and got some USD cash now, plus some USD on a CBA Travel Money Card. A little minor currency speculation may pay off!

Any ideas to fill in time waiting at LAX?

On an October Sunday, we arrive 2:50 PM from Florida, and depart for Oz at 10:30 PM. Suggestions as to what to do please? We are in our 60s.
