    fly ahead query

From my experience it is definitely not essential to have checked in in order to fly-ahead. You can ask to be put on an earlier flight as you're checking in at the counter. Unless you absolutely have to be on the earlier flight or you have very good reasons to believe that the earlier flight...

    EY Reward availability

I was just wondering if anybody here has successfully booked an EY reward flight with their Velocity points in the past week or so? I had been hoping to book EY473 to SIN one last time before they start flying direct to AUH. However, EY473 no longer comes up as an option for me when searching...

    Getting close to Velocity Platinum

Funny I was thinking the same when flying back from HBA recently.

VA Gold recognition on SQ - positive result

Apart from the bonus points you'd get the same benefits when booking your flights with an SQ number on the SQ website or via an agent. SQ "Flexi Saver" fares are generally a little cheaper when compared to the VA Flexi fares. Those fares are still pretty flexible and attract full status credits...

Can I use my Velocity Number on a booking for my partner?

I suspect they are intentionally vague about the definition of "Resident". It merely says they must be "an individual resident in Australia, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea, Fiji, Cook Islands, Vanuatu, Tonga, Solomon Islands, Samoa, Christmas Island or Cocos Island;". But it doesn't say that...

Can I use my Velocity Number on a booking for my partner?

Pretty sure you can't. However, can't you sign up your partner to Velocity using your Australia address? Then you could later transfer the points across. I suppose he'd count as an "eligibly family member" ("de facto" is listed in the Ts&Cs). You might even be able to set up family pooling...

    Turkish Airlines for Australia

How about MEL-BOM-IST? Would seem to make sense from a great circle point of view. TK already have daily IST-BOM flights and we'd finally get a direct connection to India.

    Bumped from Jetstar to Qantas

I was once booked on JQ7 (non-earning Y fare) from MEL-SIN which was cancelled. They put me on QF5 instead. Strangely they booked me on DJ for the MEL-SYD leg. So I had to collect my bag in SYD and check-in for QF5 there. The check-in lady asked me if I was a QFF. I said yes but ... (explaining...

What was your shortest flight ?

My shortest flight ever was EUA-TBU (13 nm) although it didn't seem like such a short flight at the time. I felt rather sick in that Twin Otter and couldn't wait to be back on the ground. It was also my only ever landing on a grass runway (hadn't expected that at the international airport!). My...

    Multi City Bookings

I've discovered another annoying "feature" related to multi-city bookings: Just booked MEL-OOL BNE-MEL and added a car rental. Obviously I was very naive to think the drop-off location would be booked as BNE... Had to call Europcar to have it amended and will be paying extra for the one-way...

    New safety video

Maybe JQ will inherit the video for their A330s when it gets retired from QF? I believe they're still stuck with the "safety checklist" video and the Japanese language version of it referring to Qantas (カンタス).

Jetstar ODU with new fare types

Just to give you all an update: I received a phone call from Jetstar today offering me an upgrade to Business Class for $149 AUD or for $199 AUD to Business Class with Lounge access, frequent flyer points and status credits. I picked the second option. I have recently joined QP but I figured...

Jetstar ODU with new fare types

I'm planning to try this on JQ7 next Saturday (11th of June). Any suggestions on how much I should offer to pay for it? Should I just go to the normal check in counter or is there a special service desk for those requests? Best to arrive about 3 hours before departure?
