I would agree with the poster who said to stay at the village at the Grand Canyon. We stayed there one night and it was just awesome. It is way better than wasting time travelling to and from your external hotel. This applies to Bryce and Zion parks as well.

Some of the discount flights don't qualify for status credits so make sure you are booking the right class of fare otherwise you will miss out.
