South African Airways to return to PER

According to an article in Airline Ratings apparently SA are going to release the schedules next week with March to be when flights are resumed.
SA currently only has 6 aircraft but has secured leases for 15 more by the end of 2024 with 3 arriving in January. No mention of the types of aircraft they will be leasing although it does mention the possibility of 1 A350

I flew SAA domestic and short haul international late last year and they were really good.

Their lounges at CPT & JNB are excellent.,

Shame they didn't choose CPT just as a point of difference. Hate flying in/out of JNB. Yes, I understand there'd be myriad reasons not too. I'm just being selfish.

QF sale coming?

Or maybe QF announces Oz - CPT flights 😁.

Actually, now that PER and QF appear to be playing nice, I’m surprised PER-JNB isn’t back on the table? I guess just that niggling issue of no spare aircraft…

Just waiting for the QF/SA codeshare agreement to be announced.

They used to have approval (up until 2014), and there's more competition on that route (inc SQ/EK/QR etc) than QF & LA have on SCL.

In fact it was QF who ended it. I'm guessing that was related to the DXB move, but now South Africa is excluded from the EK alliance.

Interesting they’re doing a hot turn rather than the former late night departure (and a 4:30am arrival at Tambo from memory). Was a pleasant time to go through immigration. I guess they can’t afford to have the aeroplane on the ground all day. This kills an awful lot of connection options. Would even be a stretch to make the last CPT flight.

They must have read your comment, the schedule has changed to a late night Dept from PER with early morning arrival in JNB which is much better for onward connections.

Have QF stopped codesharing on DXB-JNB?
I didn’t think they ever did. Nothing to Southern Africa as far as I recall and consistent with this.

It might be possible to buy that sector but with EK code only?
