Travel plans 2024

Unfortunately work keeps getting in the way and still another 10 years probably before I choose to retire early
Ha. Someone in our household doesn't understand what retirement means! So I have to keep dragging him away and booking months in advance so it sticks in his diary. Consequently I've also got 2025 sorted for two cruises. Hmmm. Must tell him about the April one to Japan.

We have Christchurch planned for March for the annual dinner (see here). Otherwise, absolutely nothing. Miss TomCat really wants to go to Chicago to see Grandma but 1. she starts school next year and 2. airfares for 4 seats are outrageous.
Maybe time to fly grandma out to Aussie :)

Think I've finally got it all nailed down. Have had the TA booking flights, tours and accom frantically the past 2 weeks.
If you are using the TA that you recommended to me She is working on getting me to Tibet and then onto HKG for the crawl.

My motto is do it while you can.
Then don't have your first child at 52 years old. I'm 60 years old in a few days and I'm pretty much done.

Now time to put golf set together and leave it in storage in Thailand and hopefully lots of golf until I cannot swing a golf club or the simulation is over.

Thankfully we didn't, and it's good to see the fledglings thriving on their own (but we do have a granny flat available for their unexpected return at any time) .

But, because of other commitments, we take our trips separately. It works well for us (don't ask), but may not work for everyone.

This will also be our plan when daughter is 11-12 years old and not needing too much supervision. We'll go as family for 2 trips, June and December and individual trips other times.

I'd love if wife went for 4-6 weeks August-September to relax without us and I can go 2-3 weeks around my birthday in February each year.

And I am there in September.

Apparently 4 dead Armenian soldiers from a border skirmish last week and I saw the Armenian PM warning that full scale war is a possibility with Azerbaijan wanting to steal more territory to create a land bridge to an area it annexed in September.
Hopefully there is a peaceful resolution and it war can be avoided

Yes, it makes route planning a bit more challenging as the land borders are closed so the overnight train isn't running from Georgia but I have a cunning plan.

My better half signed up for a two year TAFE course, and it seems like a bit of a waste of her time to skip classes for a holiday … plus TAFE holidays are shorter than even school holidays (I must admit I kinda expected uni-sized hols).

So anything for us is going to be short trips for the next coupla years. I could probably justify south-east Asia but even Japan is probably something of a stretch in terms of the suffering:return ratio. Sooo … anywhere’s gonna be pretty local for a while.

If nothing else it means I’ll probably be able to justify the cost of J when we finally go somewhere. :)

With DSC yesterday, have firmed up our plans for 2024.

• Koh Samui J in September for Mr Flyfrequently's significant birthday in September - SG for him.

• 25th December MEL-ADL-MEL J for the day - retain SG for me (not hosting Christmas lunch this year yay!)

Already booked MEL-OOL-MEL Y for niece's 50th next week and DPS J for my insignificant birthday in June.
Checked fares for DPS yesterday and glad I booked it last year as fares $1k more each way for the flights I wanted.

2024 adds
  • Another long weekend BNE-CHC trip, DSC J sale return in October
  • Sydney for a long weekend in November - 60th birthday of our friend with the apartment on The World. Staying at the West Hotel. It will be a BIG weekend. DSC J sale down, cheapy Y back :)

Plans have changed again. Due to an unexpected international trip I can no longer apply for a Chinese visa i.e. I cannot be with out my passport and the time frame required to send my passport to the Chinese visa processing office and then to get the Tibet Permit is just not workable. So out with Tibet and now trying for Mongolia. @RooFlyer if Mongolia goes south there is a very good chance I will be there at the same time as you.
