hi,

I am on the QF BNE - HKG flight next week on Tuesday that lands at 1800 local time. I then have to get a connecting flight at 0825 in the morning to Cebu. I've never been to Hong Kong before and I am wondering about the options for staying at a convenient hotel for the evening, prior to morning flight.

thanks in advance for your help.

cheers
BJ

Stay at the Regal a 5 minute undercover walk from arrivals...Nice rooms and price very agreeable and super convenient...stayed many times and a no brainer...sport yourself to the club rooms

The Regal is convenient but can be very expensive.

There are other options like the Novotel in Tung Chung (might be called the Novotel City Gate).

Alternatively it's very easy to get to the city. The Airport Express is pretty much straight out on exit from the arrivals hall... maybe 50 yards or so. Tickets are easy to buy (can use credit card) and there's whole raft of options in Kowloon or the island to stay. I think the first train back to the airport is 0550. But depends on the cost. Three-four star hotels in the city are around $100 a night, and how much Regal wants as to whether the trip in is worth it.

If you've never been to Hong Kong before a trip in to the city for the night can be totally worth it, even for a short time. Arriving at 1800 you'd be at your hotel in the city by 730 at the latest. There's lots of things to do like taking the Star Ferry, and on Hong Kong island riding the tram from Central to Causeway Bay and back... for the postcard views of all the neon lights. And then there's the food! And night markets.

Definitely doable and you'd be back at your hotel (with a very easy sightseeing itinerary) by 1030-1100.

The other one is the Marriott Sky City. Over the water views are very good and dining is not bad either. Club lounge is OK. You just take the express to the end of the line, which takes all of three minutes. There is a shuttle bus back to the airport

I prefer the Marriott Skycity as well. Nice hotel, breakfast not bad.
They provide free shuttle to/from the airport which is only a few mins away.

Have stayed at Regal Hotel many times, best part its attached to Int. terminal so makes it all so easy to arrive and depart, last time paid $160 night, good room size too.

thanks folks. I have gone with the Regal. I get into HKG at 1800hrs tuesday night and then leave Wednesday morning for Cebu at 0925. When I come back to HKG, I land at 0015hrs on Thursday night. So the Regal seemed like an appropriate choice given those times.

I have Friday free until QF98 at 2000hrs. So I will leave bag at hotel, take the train into the city area and wander. not been to HKG before, so keen to see it. I like a bustling Asian city and a good wander around.

You also have a good opportunity to go into the city on the night of arrival. there's a return fare to HKG on the Airport Express for HKD100 same-day return. You'd be in town by 730 at the latest... time for the sound and light show (8pm), some dinner, plus a ride on the tram at night... all things you'll miss with the early departure time for the QF98. last train back from Central to the airport is at 0048.

A few tips:

Get an octopus card to get around, if you travel out and back from the airport on the same day it’s only a little more than one way and cheaper than most of the tourist tickets.

No trip to Hong Kong is complete without a trip across the harbour on the star ferry, 2 HKD on you octopus. A ride on the top deck of a tram, Kong Kong side if pretty good as well.

Other than that a wander around the mid levels and/or tsim sha tsui eating everything in sight is a pretty good introduction to Hong Kong.
