Hi community,

I am going to Dubrovnik, Croatia, on the first week of July.
I am planning to stay at either the Hilton or the Excelsior hotel.

I would like to hear from members who have been to either hotels , just
to see how their experiences were.

Thank you.

We stayed at Hilton Dubrovnik last year which is located just outside the walled city in an excellent location. Airport bus stops opposite the hotel. Excellent views from the Executive lounge...overall nice hotel. Can't comment about other hotel.

I just left Dubrovnik a couple of days ago, and while I didn't stay at either hotel, the Hilton looked fabulous! Seriously only about two minutes walk to the Old Town. We are Hilton Gold, so looked at staying there, but we were booking last minute and it was crazy expensive. It really did look impressive though.

Thank you KPC for the reply. I am leaning towards Hilton and yes, probably will book an executive room with sea views too. Did you book the airport pickup service from the hotel ?

Thank you Romney for the reply ! Yes i think i am going to book the Hilton. Looks like the hotel is going to be refurbished between Nov 17 till April 18. So, can't wait to see how the new rooms will look like.

Save your money....catch the airport bus which departs after every arrival; the bus terminates diagonally opposite the hotel :)...I think I used Hilton points to book as room was quite dear ;)...but it is really a fabulous hotel in a great location so it would be money well spent.

Thank you for the helpful reply again kpc :) Unfortunately i don't have enough Hilton points (And the points required for July bookings are ridiculously high)

Just a final question : How many days did you stay in Dubrovnik ?

3 nights so had 2 full days. If I had an extra day, would have done a day trip to adjoining Bosnia. It may be very busy in July esp if the cruise ships are in town!

Dubrovnik gets crazy busy in summer. We are doing a small (38 People) Croatian cruise in late May for 7 nights starting in Dunbrovnik and ending in Split.

We are staying the first night at the Grand Villa Argentina.

I am planning to stay for about 3 days too. I had a look at the cruise dossier for 2018 in Dubrovnik, and some days do look very crowded. Since i can't really change my itinerary much, i will just have to hope for the best on the 1st week of July !

Wow ! Your trip sounds amazing :D May would be a good time to go. Yup, my mistake in picking July. Hopefully it won't be too crazy busy on the 1st week of July ! I did consider the Grand Villa, but i overlooked it as i did not like the room's interior design : )

Dubrovnik in July in 2014. Cruise pax tend to climb the wall early in the morning and then come down into the square from lunchtime onwards. Busy around 2pm but then depart around 6pm. Hot. Gorgeous.

Thanks a lot for sharing the stunning photos ! Can't wait to go there :) Maybe i will go to the Walls around late afternoon or 8am in the morning, and then sleep during the hot afternoon.

Did you get some Kuna currency before departing Australia ? Or you just used an ATM in Dubrovnik?

I tend to use the ATM eg at the airport. Aus exchange is dreadful. Locals like Kuna. So, I would climb the wall early in the morning, come back and rest around the hotel during the arvo then venture to the square for dinner. If there is no cruise ship then you can do what ever you like. If you check cruisett.com for Dubrovnik port for your dates you can see what ships are going to be there and plan accordingly.

We went to Dubrovnik in late April last year and missed all the cruise ships :) Even then, it got quite hot walking on the wall so I would recommend doing that first thing in the morning. We got our cash from the ATM machine in Zagreb airport.

That's interesting. We should have great weather in late May then.

Thanks everyone for the very helpful replies ! You are right Pushka, the first week of July don't seem too packed with cruise passengers. Yup, i will definitely try and do the Wall and Mt. Srd before or after the afternoon heat, and try and book a tour guide and pick the hotel i want to stay in.
