Interest in the delays/ cancellations threads has accelerated with the rise from 200,000 to 300,000 pageviews for the thread re QF having been quite quick.

The next most viewed delays and cancellations are for JQ (about 55,000) with VA (about 35,000) then a long gap to airlines such as TT, CX, EK and SQ (all in the 10,000 - 13,000 bracket.)

MK, at 140 views yesterday, had the fewest views, perhaps unsurprising in view of its very limited footprint in Australia.

The number of views has some correlation to how often incidents are posted.

Many, many months ago AFF member mannej rightly commented that the thread (which at that stage was for only QF) was 'biased' so I have endeavoured to discuss the other three main domestic airlines' unpunctuality. Additionally, wide coverage of foreign airlines' delays into and out of Oz has occurred.

It is clear, however, that to a much greater degree than reflected in market share figures, AFF members have an abiding interest in QF's performance.

JL, KE and NH will never have huge numbers of views because not only are their operations into and out of Oz limited, but they have few delays and almost no cancellations.

QFi, in contrast, has had a bad month although part of this has been due to school holidays when loadings are high with many flights booked out and the little darlings slowing boarding and alighting.

QFi has also been somewhat affected by highly variable weather in HKG and thunderstorms in JFK - the latter affects the timekeeping of QF11/QF12 LAX - JFK and return, and can flow on to the Oz-bound westbounds, particularly QF12 and QF16. CX and the new VA HKG flights have not been immune from these HKG delays, but on the TransPacific routes to and from LAX, QFi's performance has been woeful compared to its competitors.

QF2 has also had its share of drama including '46 hours in DXB (for passengers)' as one online media outlet screamed.

Mainland Chinese airlines are as yet not patronised by large numbers of non-Chinese Australians but these airlines' punctuality can be very poor.

Domestic punctuality has varied widely.

As always, AFF 'on the spot' reports are most welcome. Contributions that disclose how one was treated in the event of delays or cancellations (rebooking, hotel accommodation as in which one and meal plans, transfers, snacks or meals at the gate, total delay) are pure gold for many members as these arm our travellers with information during IRROPS as the acronym goes.
