Well it's now been 6 months since the Citi Prestige credit card went from being the best premium card in Australia - to now the coughtiest rip-off card on the market.
Just to recap - Citibank made the below changes to the Cit Prestige card...
* Fourth Night Free Hotel Stay - use to be...
Yep - the new head of credit cards for Citibank Australia is Choong Yu Lum.
If you're reading this Choong Yu Lum - congratulations on making the Citi Prestige (in many people's opinion the best premium credit card in Australia for several years) now the worst and most worthless.
Eliminate and...
Oh look, thanks to this thread - Australian Frequent Flyer wrote up an article about Citi screwing over Prestige cardholders...
Citibank Shuffles Credit Cards, Removes Benefits
They absolutely are switching from Visa Infinite (the world's most prestigious Visa card) to simply Mastercard.
You can call Citibank on 13 24 84 (or their priority phone number for Citi Prestige customers - 02 8225 0042) and ask them for yourself.
I'm not exactly sure when it's going to come...
1. Besides priority pass and travel insurance - EVERY other Citi Prestige benefit has now been eliminated or downgraded...
* Fourth Night Free Hotel Stay - use to be unlimited, now capped to only being able to use 4 times a year.
* Complimentary Airport Transfer - use to be two free transfers...
I have a further update about the Citi Prestige card.
Very soon email correspondence will be sent out to cardholders that Citi Prestige will no longer be a VISA INFINITE credit card (the world's most premium Visa card).
Citi Prestige is going to become a Mastercard instead. The issue is that...
My dad who is also a Citi Prestige cardholder called Citibank earlier this week to cancel his card.
The Citibank representative he spoke to on the phone said the reason Citibank discontinued a bunch of benefits, is because Citi Prestige concierge (a third party company) contacted Citibank...
What blows my mind is there absolutely is NOT going to be a reduction in the annual fee (I've asked Citibank - it will remain $700). Besides Priority Pass and Insurance - EVERY other benefit has been either downgraded or eliminated - and they still have the nerve to demand $700.
When I called...
There are TWO different hotel benefits.
4th Night Free - This is a benefit where if you book a hotel room for 3 nights in a row, you can stay the following night (your 4th night) for free. This benefit was originally unlimited (you can book as many '3 night stay/get your 4th night free'...
The full terms and conditions for Citi Prestige 2020 is now available online (PDF link below)...
It's even worse than I thought. The hotel "4th night free" benefit is no longer unlimited and is now CAPPED. You can only use it 4 times - that's it...
Nope.
As of January 2020 - only ONE complementary airport transfer per year.
So now we have complementary night at a 4/5 star hotel benefit eliminated, meet & assist benefit eliminated, complimentary golf course access benefit eliminated, return airport transfer benefit eliminated.
And...
Oh it get's even better...
Citibank are also downgrading the complimentary airport transfer benefit.
At the moment, you receive 2 complementary airport transfers per year...starting from 2020 you only receive 1 complimentary airport transfer per year.
What a joke!
These changes will be made...
The source is CITIBANK AUSTRALIA themselves. This is not speculation but indeed FACT.
Call Citibank on 13 24 84 (or their priority phone number for Citi Prestige customers - 8225 0042) and ask them for yourself.
The changes I have mentioned above (e.g. the elimination of a yearly complimentary...
I made a separate thread about this - but I may as well copy and paste in here also....
As some of you may be aware, Citibank Australia have removed product information about the Citi Prestige credit card from their website.
Some assumed the card is soon to be discontinued - but that is not...
