Data point: It appears that in this thread, people started receiving their DSC's on the 11th of May last year. So hopefully the same holds true for this year. ...Especially since I'm doing a status run this weekend, then hope to have the DSC's post by Wednesday 10/5 so I can qualify for WP...

I'm not sure if upgrading on the day increases your points/SC earn, but JAL Explorer Pass tickets credit as "Flexible Economy", bizarrely enough! Last week I flew HKD - HND on a JAL Explorer Pass ticket, and received 400pts/20SC for the flight: A pleasant surprise, as I thought I'd get nothing.

That sounds like a most excellent idea. I'm doing this as a J status run, with the DSC promo to secure gold for another year. I was considering staying in the city, but because of the tight flight turnarounds (and wanting to spend the most time I can in the lounges), I think I'll definitely stay...
