Travel - The Great Escape to Canada (and back, we hope!) |
Trip
report by pauly7 | Well, I know that there has been a dire shortage of anyone on AFF travelling internationally recently and thus no international trip reports have surfaced for months and months... but here is a thread to hopefully keep a few people engaged with the hope of international travel returning someday. The journey starts in Melbourne, where preparation for the trip has been intense, like no other trip I have ever had to organise. read

This
week we interviewed AFF member pangwen from Brisbane. pangwen joined Australian Frequent Flyer in 2010 and has so far made 369 posts. |
Q:
Where did you go on your last trip? |
A:
We were originally going to go to Sydney in July, then that got cancelled due to the lockdown so we rebooked for Melbourne a few weeks later. Obviously that didn't work out either, so we ended up just going for an overnight trip down to the Gold Coast! In terms of my last international trip, it was to Switzerland in December 2019 and returning early January 2020. Back at that time I don't recall any mention of COVID in the news, but instead I spoke with one of the FAs about the bushfires in Australia when she heard my accent (although I hadn't really been impacted, being from Brisbane). |
Q:
Where will you go when the current travel restrictions are lifted? |
A:
Singapore!
Nice and close, and lots of things to do for a short getaway. |
Q:
Favourite airline? |
A:
Singapore
Airlines. I've experienced consistently good service with them, and the on-board catering was delicious. Also (pre-COVID) their ex-BNE schedule provided me with the most flexibility. I particularly liked the ability to do red-eyes in both directions. |
Q:
What's one piece of advice you would give to a new AFF member? |
A: Be open to new ideas, particularly on the forums, and don't dismiss people's viewpoints out of hand. Sometimes there really is a method to the madness! |
Q:
Favourite thread on AFF? |
There's
so many I like that it's hard to pick a favourite. At the moment with limited travel, one of my favourites has been New
Amex statement credits. With the travel benefits not providing much value, I have found keeping up with the various credits to be a lot more important. |
