AFF Member Profile
This week we interviewed AFF member Bell21 from Sydney. Bell21 joined Australian Frequent Flyer in 2018 and has so far made 610 posts.

Q: Where did you go on your last trip?
A: I consider myself lucky that we were able to go on our Tasmanian family trip as planned last Xmas. We live in Sydney, and left (as originally scheduled) on 18 December, which was just as things were heating up with Covid cases on the Northern Beaches. If we'd left a day or so later, Tasmania wouldn't have let us in. All in all, a lovely holiday around Tasmania.

Q: Where will you go when the current travel restrictions are lifted?
A: Well, that's a tough one. I'd love to go back to New York, but I think it might take a while before going to the US is feasible. So I'm going to say that we're hoping to go to New Zealand sometime this year if the travel bubble is still OK when we're meant to travel!

Q: Favourite airline?
A: Singapore Airlines. I've only been in the points/travel hobby for 2+ years, so I'm still relatively new, but I've been impressed with SQ. In the past, I only really thought of Qantas for using points and as we know, Qantas has high taxes & restricted J award availability. So I was impressed (pre-pandemic) when I could book multiple Business seats at Xmas with low taxes, utilising an open-jaw and free stopovers - and only 6 months or so in advance of the trip.

Q: What's one piece of advice you would give to a new AFF member?
A: There are so many! It's been a fairly steep learning curve, learning a lot of the ins and outs of "the hobby". I've found the AFF forums such an invaluable place to learn from others. Also, be prepared to talk to lots of call centre operatives and spreadsheets can really be your friend!

Q: Favourite thread on AFF?
A: AMEX Platinum Charge Benefits - Q&A - when I started "the hobby", I never thought I'd pay for an expensive credit card. But as someone without any airline or hotel status originally, it has really been valuable. Unfortunately, it has really devalued itself during the pandemic and is becoming less attractive to many.
