   Planes, Parenting and other Catastrophes!

It is the classic modern day dilemma... kids or career? For many frequent flyers their business means they spend many a night away from home. According to Parenting magazine, being a parent does not necessarily mean you have to sacrifice your career. Quality rather than quantity is the key to successful parenting for frequent flyers according to the article.

Since the average business trip lasts three nights, frequent flyer parents need to have boundaries and clear plans to ensure their child does not feel neglected. It is suggested that flying parents try not to stay over the weekend, should utilise technology to stay connected and always bring the child back a gift, even something simple to reassure them they are not being overlooked.

Veteran business travelling parents share a common fear of missing a key event in their child's life. Both men and women who travel for a living experience more stress and tend to have feelings of guilt about travelling. For a parent, it all comes down to one word, says family therapist Scott D. Brandt, Ph.D., "contact". It's really what it's all about. Any way that a parent can consistently make contact with the child [while travelling] is good.

Blackberry’s, laptops and mobile phones are making the career or kids conundrum simpler. It seems that today’s frequent flyers can have their pre-packaged airline cake and eat it too.
