   Female Travellers Demand Fewer Frills

It appears American airlines couldn’t have got it more wrong when they launched a website just for female travellers. The marketing department somehow managed to overlook the plethora of feminist literature and general standards of political correctness, when they came up with this snappy idea.

The launch of the Women Travellers Connected site has left business women outraged.

It seems the airline's long-planned foray into niche Web marketing for the growing number of female travellers, ''hit a nerve''. The Web site, offers travel advice from a panel of experienced businesswomen, as well as various on-the-road tips and a forum for women to share experiences and compare notes.

The website began as lavender hued, complete with all the feminine touches. One almost expected to see little hearts dotting the I’s. The colour, however, has since been changed to a more conservative business- like blue and white.

American has sought to tap into the female market with innovations like lie-flat business-class seats on its long-haul flights. The seats have a handy place to stow a purse and privacy screens to make women more comfortable when sleeping.

However, whilst American thought they were capturing a niche, many women have rejected the campaign as a condescending marketing ploy.
