Qantas Questions Answered

It’s official, the new look two-tiered Qantas frequent flyer program has been christened. The two- tiers bear the rather unoriginal names of Anyseat and Classic and are set to be launched on July 1st. Their sole aims, according to the PR, are to provide frequent flyers with more choice about how to use their points.
The Anyseat tier allows members to use their points in the same way as cash to get any seat on any flight on Qantas or Jetstar.  It's worth noting that Virgin Velocity has always had this feature, and Air NZ introduced an "any available seat" policy about 3 years ago!

Whilst the Anyseat tier is an attractive option for many frequent flyers, it is set to cost more. According to aviation commentators, passengers will not know how much more their tickets will cost in terms of points until it has been booked. Redemption will start at the same points cost as classic seats and will rise depending on availability of seats, demand and the time of flying. In other words, the more coveted the seat, the higher the points cost.

An inside tip is to book well ahead of your departure date when demand is low or purchase tickets during quiet periods.

For those of you who are resistant to change the Classic tier offers you all the familiar options of the current scheme.
