Guide to Qatar Airways Privilege Club Status
Often overlooked by Australian frequent flyers, the Qatar Airways Privilege Club program has been brought back into the spotlight by the recent status match for Virgin Australia Velocity members.

With most of these status matches now processed, many former Virgin Australia flyers now have newly-minted Qatar Airways Privilege Club cards. So, what benefits does this come with, and how can you renew your Privilege Club status?

AFF Member Profile
This week, we interviewed AFF member codash1099 from Perth. codash1099 joined Australian Frequent Flyer in 2006 and has so far made 2,718 posts.

Q: Where did you go on your last trip?
A: My last trip was a truncated DONE4 [Oneworld Explorer round-the-world ticket] and an emergency return to Australia. My 7-week trip was interrupted by the coronavirus less than 2 weeks in. Made it as far as MSY with Europe left untouched. A points upgrade to First on the DFW-SYD leg was a slight consolation, but booking a day ahead of the flight gave my bank balance a scare it has not recovered from.

Q: Where will you go when the current travel bans are lifted?
A: When restrictions are lifted, I'd like to do the remainder of the cancelled trip. It was something I had been looking forward to as my ability to do long overseas trips is gradually fading. I'd particularly like to do it before the end of April 2021 when my entrance to First lounges expires.

Q: Favourite airline?
A: Favourite? Not sure I really have one. I prefer the Oneworld alliance because of my status (and hence Qantas because of earn rates), but I also like Finnair for value. I can't say I've ever had a major problem with any airline (unless I go back to 1969).

Q: What's one piece of advice you would give to a new AFF member?
A: AFF is full of good information, but it's up to you to make use of it. There are the occasional "nonsense" threads, and there are occasionally pointless whinges, but there's a lot of good information. And remember to "pay it forward". Your own contribution can be of value.

Q: Favourite forum on AFF?
A: My current favourite thread is Top Three Holiday Photos which tells me that I should have started my travelling life much earlier in order to fit it all in. Other than that, the "A bit of humour" thread, because we all need a bit of light relief.
