Trip
report by irv | My trip began on 9 March 2020, under the increasing spectre of COVID19 and the uncertainty of what was really at that time an emerging problem. My destination was the southwest of the USA, where I had planned to start from Los Angeles and travel to Utah, Arizona, Nevada and then back to California before heading home after 3 weeks of travel. read

This
week, we interviewed AFF member Tiki from Brisbane. Tiki joined Australian Frequent Flyer in 2004 and has so far made 510 posts. |
Q:
Where did you go on on your last trip? |
A:
Turkey. Cappadocia in winter is magical with the snow covering the fairy chimneys! |
Q:
Where will you go when the current travel bans are lifted? |
A:
Indonesia
(Sulawesi and Halmahera) for birding via SIN on SQ. Fiji - Kadavu and Taveuni also for birding. And more trips to Turkey, I love that country!! |
Q:
Favourite airline? |
A:
To Turkey I like Emirates because their Economy class is pretty good compared to others and I can stop in Dubai for a few hours for shopping! Within Asia, Singapore Airlines and Qantas are good. Virgin Australia used to be good for Pacific Islands but sadly they cancelled Rarotonga. |
Q:
What's one piece of advice you would give to a new AFF member? |
A:
Have
several trips in the planning stages with miles requirements mapped out. You never know when there may be an amazing deal to one place so it helps if you can, for example, swap Fiji for Indonesia if Singapore Airlines has a better deal than Qantas/Virgin. Also, work those email shopping bonuses when you get them! Like spend xx for 10k Woolies/Flybuys points. Up until panic shopping set in, we were easily getting 80k miles a year which gets you to anywhere in Asia in Y. |
Q:
Favourite thread on AFF? |
A: In normal times I am looking at the Shopping
Reward Programs forum because that is the main way I earn points. But nowadays I am watching the COVID-19
threads closely to see what industry experts recommend. I transferred my Velocity points to Singapore Airlines based on grim predictions for VA in this
thread, knowing that if they survive I can always get more Velocity points from Flybuys. |
