Virgin Business Passenger Refused Diet Coke
The recent changes to Virgin Australia's Business class catering have come back to bite after a Virgin Business Class passenger was told they'd have to pay for a can of Diet Coke.

Last Wednesday, Virgin stopped offering Business class guests complimentary snacks and drinks from the Economy buy-on-board menu. Business class passengers that would like something to eat or drink in addition to the regular menu are now being asked to pull out their wallets. In fact, Virgin Business passengers even have a retail menu in their seat pockets now.

Qantas Improves American Earn Rates
Qantas has increased the amount of points and status credits you'll earn for many American Airlines flights, including trans-Pacific and US domestic flights. It's more good news for travellers following the approval of a new joint venture between American Airlines and Qantas earlier this year. As a result of the joint venture, Qantas has already announced the launch of new services from Brisbane to Chicago and San Francisco. Qantas also recently added 28 new codeshare routes more...
United Discontinues Status Challenge
United MileagePlus has discontinued its long-running status challenge. The move comes as United announces a complete overhaul to the way MileagePlus Premier status is earned, effective from 1 January 2020. United's status challenge has been a popular shortcut to Star Alliance Gold status. Until 30 September 2019, United offered a 3-month trial of United status to frequent flyers that had existing status with a competing airline. Travellers could then extend their United more...

Europe from the back seat
Trip report by jb747 | Having been to parts of Europe many times during my flying life, I'm now starting to see it from the other side. No more 36 hour stays, but sadly I have to pay for the accommodations. This trip has stops in Singapore, Zurich, Salzburg, Vienna, Graz, Ljubljana, Venice, Florence, Lucca, Milan, and then back to Singapore for a couple of days before heading home. read more...
Kakadu-du-du, no pineapples, plenty of trees. A long weekend in the NT
Trip report by bpeteb | Continuing with my (my Kiwi partner has been to everywhere before) discovery of Oz, we're just back from a long weekend at Kakadu. Not even close to enough time, but just like with last year's flying tasting-plate-sized visit to Adelaide and surrounds, I now want to go back for the full course. read more...
AFF Member Profile
This week, we interviewed AFF member OZDUCK from Perth. OZDUCK joined Australian Frequent Flyer in 2010 and has so far made 1,438 posts.

Q: Most recent flight?
A: Singapore to Perth on a Singapore Airlines 'charter' flight replacing a Scoot one due to the ongoing B787 engine issues. (View OZDUCK's recent trip report.)

Q: Favourite destination?
A: I think Germany is the standout for us. We have a few friends we have stayed with over there and it is nice to see 'normal' life in another country. It has both scenery and history to discover. Once you get out of the major cities there are lot of little unexpected buildings and town to stumble over. Over 3 trips we have spent about 2 months there and only scratched the surface. And the food is excellent and far more varied than most people believe.

Q: What's one thing you would never travel overseas without?
A: I know that a few other share this one. A complete physical copy of all our travel tickets, hotel bookings, transport details etc. It is all bound up in a little zip-up folder and split into separate sections for transport, accommodation, itinerary etc. It came in very useful on a couple of occasions this last trip.

Q: What's one piece of advice you would give to a new AFF member?
A: Be prepared to use the expertise of AFF members. I have seen the most obscure questions answered quickly and, usually, with good humour. There is an incredible amount of experience and knowledge among AFF members and they are almost always prepared to be helpful.

Q: Favourite thread on AFF?
A: The view from my "office" - it is always fascinating to see where AFF members travel for both work and pleasure and gives a nice little vignette of our fascinating world. It also helps to nudge you to new thoughts about travel.
