Best Qantas & Velocity Credit Card Offers for April 2020

Best Qantas & Velocity Credit Card Offers for April 2020Credit card sign-up bonuses are one of the easiest ways to accumulate frequent flyer points quickly and relatively cheaply. By applying for a credit card and paying the annual fee, you could earn tens or even hundreds of thousands of frequent flyer points towards your next trip! Plus, during April 2020, first-time Qantas credit card holders can even earn an extra 20,000 points on top of the usual sign-up bonus.

Even though most of us are grounded at the moment, you can still earn lots of frequent flyer points on the ground. You’ll be able to use them to travel again once the current restrictions are lifted!

In case you’re worried about airlines going out of business in the near future, you may choose to earn points with a flexible credit card rewards program such as Amex Membership Rewards or Westpac Altitude, instead of directly with one airline. Australia’s banks are very unlikely to go out of business any time soon, and credit card reward points kept with a bank generally don’t expire. You’ll be able to transfer your points to your choice of airlines’ frequent flyer programs at a later date, once you’re ready to redeem them.

There are lots of great credit card sign-up offers available in Australia for both Qantas points and Velocity points. But beware that several of these Qantas (and Velocity) credit card offers require you to renew the card for a second year, or commit with spending each month over a period of several months, in order to earn the full sign-up bonus. This is part of a wider trend of banks cracking down on credit card churning.

If you’re thinking about applying for a new credit card and want to maximise your frequent flyer points, here are our picks for the best credit card offers available in April 2020…

Credit card sign-up offers for Qantas points

With this month’s best Qantas credit card sign-up offers, you can earn up to 150,000 bonus Qantas Frequent Flyer points! That’s more than enough Qantas points to fly around the world in Economy class (which costs 132,400 Qantas points, plus taxes & carrier charges).

This month, Qantas Frequent Flyer is also offering an additional 20,000 bonus points to anyone that has not held a Qantas points-earning credit card in the past 12 months. This offer expires on 3 May 2020 and is being discussed on the Australian Frequent Flyer forum.

Keep in mind that Qantas points earned from credit card sign-up bonuses will also count towards Qantas Points Club membership, up to a maximum of 125,000 Qantas points per transaction. You need to earn at least 150,000 points per Qantas Frequent Flyer membership year, with at least 130,000 points from non-flying activities, to qualify for Points Club.

And with the Qantas American Express Ultimate card, keep in mind that you can offset the $450 annual fee by using the $450 annual Qantas travel credit that comes automatically with the card!
