So I've got a small credit voucher of $142 (due to a cancellation of a SYD-ADL flight using Any Seat Award).

I then tried to use the voucher for a CBR-SYD return. Got to the page where I entered the CC number. QF site had 'difficulty with CC information' (tried 3 different CCs). Got on the phone with QF Platinum...learnt 2 lessons:

1. Credit voucher generated from a cancelled ASA booking can only be redeemed online for the same route (e.g SYD-ADL in my case)

2. QF Platinum can, however, manipulate the system and let me book the desired CBR-SYD flights. However, the total re-booking fee is $155. Which makes the overall costs $297... Lordy! (whereas if I take adv of the current promos, it'll costs $158 plus CC fees.)

Non J -ASAs are no where near as good as JASAs when it comes to flexibility, especially when you factor in the minimal points difference.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

I'm reading the T&C's for Any Seat Award cancellations and I can't find reference to credit vouchers - from what I can see, you're supposed to get..:

Frequent Flyer - About the Program - Terms & Conditions

...then the refund of the Any Seat Award will be made by re-crediting Points redeemed to the Member's account and refunding any money paid to the Member's Accepted Payment Card, less any applicable cancellation fee (or refund fee)...

That's a selective quote - there's lots of ifs/buts/ands in the cancellation clauses. Were you offered a points refund at all?

It certainly looks like it, markis10.

Notzac, I didn't get a points refund. When I cancelled the booking, a voucher was automatically generated. $142 for 16,501 points...

You are quoting the refund portion which is not applicable unless the ASA as a fully flex or J fare. Red e Deals, Super Savers etc are credit voucher only.

Wow, OK -- good to know. It would be nice if the T&C's spelled this out a little more clearly.

I think they do, most people including the call centre forget the important part - original fare conditions apply, so no refund means no refund. I have had to cancel or change two JASAs and on both occasions I had to point out to the operator that I was entitled to a full points refund without any penalty.

Its ironic that a well planned JASA costs less than a classic in terms of points and is more flexible in many cases.
