Hi everyone,

Back in February my QF WP status dropped to my LT SG status. Due to changes in work duties I rarely travel for work so the life time Gold status will now come into play for my personal international trips :)

Anyway last week I did my first QF trip since the drop and checked in for MEL-BNE flight using the Qantas App. The boarding pass for this, and the return flight when checking in for the next day, came out as Platinum status despite my online account being listed as Gold for some time.

Now this meant I could access the business lounge at both Melbourne and Brisbane which I did end up using.

Questions
1) Has this happened to anyone before?

Not counting the 1 week delay in status downgrades I mean but such a long time later.

2) Any ethical concerns with using domestic business lounge?

I did consider not using it but since as a WP over many years I only used J domestic lounges around 15% of the time (I try to minimise domestic airport time) rationalised it as okay - I guess when it’s to your benefit it’s easy to rationalise!

3) Would this open up an international F lounge visit?

I have a J SYD-DFW flight in August. I guess if I don’t check in using my LTG card the system might still list Platinum status and checkin agent might not see the status mismatch.

4) Assuming if boarding pass has WP would you use the F lounge in Sydney?

I’m actually more concerned with ethics for International F Lounge use in this situation but the SYD J Lounge is always been underwhelming and overcrowded when I’ve visited.

Anyway a weird situation, it appears like some systems are unlinked and the status downgrade from main account database to checkin system, at least for App, hasn’t worked.

Did you book these flights when you were still WP?

No I booked the flight 2-3 weeks before which was probably 3 months after dropping back from WP to LTG. Maybe it’s a one off, I guess I see when I do the international trip in August.

I've only seen similar when I've booked prior to the status change and made no changes to the booking between trip creation and check-in (but then that was a while ago too).

On the flip, I've also gone from SG to WP and try as we might, could not get the update to be reflected on an EK booking; including removing/reentering the FF details. Was disappointed not to use the DXB F Lounge on this occasion.

Regards,

BD

Did you show them your FF card?

Hadn't received the card yet. The status on the App wasn't accepted as proof; a call with QFF - while enough to persuade the Emirates Station Manager I wasn't a fraud - wasn't enough to effect a change in EK's systems to allow me access once I reached DXB (or so I was told).

Regards,

BD

Okay so last week I undertook a MEL-CBR-MEL QF Y flight and once again I was listed as a Platinum member despite being only Life Time Gold now. This lead to using the Canberra Business Lounge with slightly better food options.

Then on Friday I was on MEL-SYD-DFW flights and once again listed as Platinum. Didn’t really help me as in Melbourne for domestic leg I was on J flight anyway and while in Sydney International Terminal I only had 5-8 minutes in the F Lounge due to the numerous and significant delays around Sydney airport on the day.

Finally my American Airlines flights is listing me as a Emerald member and allocated me into their Main Cabin Extra at no extra charge. Looks like for some reason my old long term WP status is sticking for boarding passes and reservations but LTG is what shows on the Qantas account. I guess I better not mention this again and just take advantage when I can (which won’t be often) which will balance out all the times I couldn’t use the WP status (mostly due to limited connection times).

That happened for about 6 months with husband. My rather naive EA decided she would ring up Qantas and let them know the wrong status was on his account. Quelle horreur! They told her they couldn’t see the issue at their end and I told her never to have anything to do with husbands Flyer account again! Eventually Qantas did a massive upgrade of their website, maybe three years ago? and the status was corrected in that process. It was great being a (non) Emerald and during that time we were flying to Europe on Emirates and we enjoyed all the full on Emerald jewels including two upgrades by Emirates.
