Qantas
Platinum
I am travelling with wife and 2 kids (7 & 11) on EK: HKG-DXB-FCO return. Everyone travelling in J between HKG-DXB but Y between DXB & FCO.

As a WP do I have access to 1st lounge in DXB and FCO? Can I bring the family in?

Below is from QF website. I had problems with bringing kids to the CX lounge before as they said only 1 guests regardless of age which contradicts with wording below. It was a nasty scene when I tried to challenge CX at the lounge entrance armed with the info below.

Platinum members may access the following lounges when your next onward flight is on a Qantas[SUP]39[/SUP], Emirates[SUP]39[/SUP], Jetstar Airlines[SUP]4[/SUP] or oneworld operated and marketed flight[SUP]32[/SUP] regardless of class of travel.
International Lounge access before your flight

  • Qantas First Lounges in Sydney and Melbourne, enjoy a range of facilities including a day spa, restaurant, library, private work suites and concierge service. Tour the award-winning First Lounges. Tour the award-winning First Lounges.

the world offering fresh, delicious dining options, shower facilities and private work areas.

As a WP you would have access with one guest, but EK treat children as guests so you would not be able to get the wife and kids in unfortunately. Apparently they are quite strict on this although obviously never hurts to try.

Yes it doesn't hurt to try but it is frustrating that we believe we should be able to get in per QF's website but we may not be able to.

I pointed it out to QF more than once. I actually called QF from HKG CX lounge expressing my anger. Nothing has been done so far.

I think you are quoting a bit selectively from the QF website.

If you look on the QF website under WP benefits and scroll a bit further down from the part you quoted, you find this:

[h=3]Benefits with Emirates[/h]As a Qantas Platinum Frequent Flyer member, when you travel with Emirates (with your Frequent Flyer number in your Emirates booking) between and within Europe, the Middle East, North Africa, Asia and Australia, you will enjoy:

  • Lounge Access
Enjoy access for you and one guest to Emirates Lounges throughout Australia, Europe, Asia, North Africa and the Middle East, whenever you fly with Qantas or Emirates. In Dubai, you and a guest may enjoy the luxurious Emirates First LoungeThis link will open in a new window. and in other airports, the Emirates Lounges. When departing London Heathrow on a Qantas operated aircraft (when travelling on a QF or EK flight number), Platinum members can access the British Airways Lounge. When departing London Heathrow on an Emirates operated aircraft (when travelling on a QF or EK flight number) Platinum members can access the Emirates Lounge. Up to two children (aged between 0 and 17 years) can access the Emirates Lounges when accompanied by a Platinum member.

If you are looking on the QF website under 'lounge access' you find this:

~ Except for the oneworld lounge at Tom Bradley International Terminal, where Qantas members are allowed two children up to 18 years of age.
** The child policy in Associated lounges varies according to the particular port and airline operating the lounge.

I couldn't find it. The page I found the info I quoted is https://www.qantas.com/fflyer/dyn/flying/tier-benefits#benefits-of-platinum

Can't find the table you quoted.

Sorry just found it now. Very misleading as what I posted contradicts with the one you posted. Why can't they just made them both the same?

Qantas do inconsistency very well....

Fair crack of the whip! Qantas went beyond what most airlines do by formalizing a great deal by allowing in a couple of kids that did not count as guests. They did this in the lounges they control, ie their own, and as a parent with kids, I love this. But now that allowance they made seems to being turned against them as third party airlines don't match it!! Whinge about Emirates, not Qantas! :/

Yes it's good for Qantas to let 2 kids in to the lounge but they can't expect everyone to know the fine details that it's only for their own lounges.

It's a basic thing for an international airtime to get the information on their website consistent and correct.

I think their website makes it as clear as it can be for anyone who reads their website, and doesn't try to read into it extras that suit their personal needs.

If people don't bother to read their website, how on earth are they meant to make it clearer? A "basic thing" is that airlines do not allow kids in for "free". That Qantas has bent this for our benefit somehow gets twisted against them???????

I find your comments quit offensive.

Have you try to find the information yourself?

Hardly Qantas's fault in this instance as it's the lounge policy of Emirates.

But Emirates didn't write on Qantas' website.

The whole point was the misleading information, not the child lounge access policy.

offensive? I do not wish to participate in any discussion with such a basis. It appears you are travelling EK, but wish to enjoy QF benefits, even though they are not in any place offered for EK flights. I seriously do not know how to answer you. Have you tried (via EK) to establish what you are or not entitled to?

Right. So one shouldn't naturally assume that Qantas's lounge policy applies only to its own lounges, and one should naturally expect a Qantas benefit to carry over to another airline. No, that's not a stretch at all. Clearly, Qantas are out to get you.

Have you try to find the information yourself?
Yes I have searched for that information in the past and found it quite easily, actually.

It seems that you do not know what the discussion is about.

It has nothing to do with whether Emirates should let my kids in their lounge. It's all about the information posted by Qantas on its own website.

Here is the information on Qantas website again:

There is no misleading information. Everything is spelt out clearly on the eligibility and access to lounges page.

And here is the relevant information on the Qantas web site:

But you want to have access for more than just the platinum member?

I was slow typing. Yes there is the child access policy as well but in a very hard to find place. On the page where I found the lounge access info I posted there is no mentioning of the child access policy, not even in the notes.
