Hi All

Im 530 SC away from making WP1, I have 7 weeks of bookings in my profile (610 SC all up) membership year ends 31st October.

Should i take the chance on asking QF to be comp'ed to P1, or just wait the 6 weeks to get to P1?

I want them to open up some seats for me to do an award booking, platinum desk said once tunred P1 , the SST should be able to open the seats up that i want (J seats xmas time)

If I had the WP1 comp button at QF I would say NO as it is a special value for you doing something special for Qantas.
Lucky I don't have that button nor do I work in Qantas!

I guess they can only say no... Which is likely...

If people could book future flights and then ask to be comp'ed because they will reach the requirements of a status level and get it/use it, could they then cancel those flights???

Yes they could, or clever'er still they could defer them into the new year.

Obviously QF have some criteria for comp'ing which I'm sure us not publicly available.

Sent from an Android device, it leaves a less fruity aftertaste.

I would ask if you want to but expect to be rejected. I am soon going to be asking whether the 2700 QF SCs is a hard requirement as I will be at 2690 and don't want to do a JASA MEL-SYD...

Many moons ago, I asked if I could be PS before my qualifying flight (10 SC short). The answer was a firm, polite and very clear "no".

I'm not sure if there has ever been an example where QF comp'ed someone UP a level. All the comps seem to be just to maintain one's current level.

At least one poster on this thread has been 'comped' directly to a level, but that was a special and seemingly rare case. So it does happen.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

When P1 was originally introduced I was 240 SC's short of 3600, although I had more than 2900 SC's on QF flights. I had enough forward bookings to take me past 4500 SC's for my year. A poor QF January 2011 was the root cause of my shortfall. I did contact QF and received a phone call politely declining my request to be given special treatment and comped P1. It was handled very well and was quite correct.

I was comped silver the first time I got status, at the end of a membership year when I was I think 20 or so SCs short, and had a bunch of forward bookings. So there's at least one example.

ETA - and yes, I called them and asked.
