Was A little suprised not to be able to get wireless internet connection without going through telstra or optus which I am not set up for. Perth airport has the qantas internet stations which allowed payed access via wireless also. Is there any other options that I am missing?

Telstra is a web browser log in with your CC or post paid mobile phone account. There's no setup required.

Option 2 is as mentioned, sit outside a lounge and find their free access point - be aware that you will recieve nasty glares from people like me ;)

Mr!

I did consider option 2 but It wasn't that important, I just thought wireless would have progressed further, apparently not.

You have more options at SYD T3 than you do in Perth, in terms of having Optus and Telstra as well as the Qantas connect service, so I am not sure what progress you are looking for. Its been a while since I have used WiFI at airports given 3G is so cheap, and dont forget Sydney is big, there are three terminals so you might want to clarify where you are asking about, there is no Qantas wireless at T1 or T2 just like there is no Qantas wireless at Perth Int.
