Hi Guys,

A quick question here:

I am at 765 SC now 2 QF flights short to retain my silver till 31 JAN.

After some researches, I am still not 100% sure if rewards flights count. Also, will gold be triggered once the yearly 4 flights requirement is met?

I am based in HK and have managed to credit my CX (most within APAC to QFF. Thinking about maybe it’s easier to switch to Asiamiles.

Thanks heaps! Apologise if this question has been asked before.

Frank

Classic Award flights do not earn points or Status credits.

Points & Pay Awards are generally very poor value but may earn points/status credits.

I don't believe *Classic* award bookings will count sorry.

,

Not thinking of getting SC or points, just the required segments/flights, still no?

If so, would consider the cost of paid tickets HKG-SYD v.s. Value of Silver/Gold status :(

No they won’t. Gold is significantly better than Silver so if the value is there for you then pay for the flight.

As the others have said, classic awards do not count as eligible sectors, but with over 700SC in your year, the four sectors will see you become gold which allows access to the excellent CX J lounges at HKG. So that may help you make your decision. Also Jetstar flights with a plus bundle count as sectors, so I would be considering it as the cost of buying lounge access for the year with some extras like priority check-in etc thrown in.

Thanks for the clarification.

Thank you for the reply mate. Tossing up now...

Yes, CX lounge access in HKG would be nice and also possible lounge access among OW partners.

Decided to credit to QFF thinking about reaching lifetime status and return to Australia when the assignment is complete. Most of my flights now are CX and Cathy Dragon, need to think about the 4 flights requirement every year :(

Wonder what others will do when relocating to HKG.

Yes that's OW lounge access whenever you fly a OW carrier. Assuming that you're going to return to Australia and can wrangle the 4 ~ every year it's a reasonable option.

Just a simple trip to Vietnam/Japan/Singapore on BL/3K/GK would do. Will be cheaper than QF flights to AUS for sure

If you return to Australia once a year try to do indirect flights e.g. HKG-MEL-SYD-MEL-HKG. By throwing in a domestic Australian leg in each direction you can get your 4 segments from the one visit.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

Points + pay has always earnt me QFF points and SC, granted its a poor ROI of points.
CX flights never seem to carry a QF code in any of my lookings online tho.
Edit: I am not 100% sure but I think the 4 flights must be on either QF or JQ flight code.
2nd edit: Just had a look, eligible flights must be QF/QFlink/JQ.

3rd edit: "The travel required in each Membership Year to attain or retain Silver, Gold or Platinum membership must include a minimum of four Eligible Flight Segments where a QF, JQ, 3K, GK or BL flight number is on the ticket."

Not pushing you to CX but if you do think about switching and really only fly cx remember that CX gives their silver members lounge access when flying CX or KA anyway. I think they also get priority baggage.

Not saying you should switch. I would probably try to stick to one program especially if trying to get life status. But just something to think about if your location becomes permanent. I have no idea about qualification and much else about Asia miles.

I do have a CX Elite Amex though that allows free plaza premium lounge access and i think waived membership fees if you hold cx status.

Thinking about maybe it’s easier to switch to Asiamiles.

Just a word to note that Asiamiles has nothing to do with loyalty and will never give you status. The membership number may be shared with the Marco Polo Club, but that would be what you would need to switch to if you wanted to earn status through a CX program.

Does a qantas award flight count as an eligible flight segment for the purposes of 4 qf metal flights?

No. They appear on your QFF activity statement once flown, but without the ~ to denote an eligible flight.

I think my QFF account no longer shows the squiggles.
If you go and have a look at yours, I think under the new "update", the squiggles have gone, (in my case that is).

Yes, they seem to have been enhanced out, I don't see them anymore either
