Just some random observation. CA is known to look after OW members, specially OWE. It has always been a delight flying with them.

In the past few months, I have noticed that they have stopped on board greeting of OWE flyers, as in the past and also they didn't mention anything about One World members in the CSM's welcome address. Just ".. and we welcome our Marco Polo Club members"

This was over multiple sectors, in J, PE and Y... short haul as well as long haul.

Maybe I am reading too much into it.. however it could be sign of CX deciding to leave to OW.

Does anyone else has any exp to share on this?

Mod: I posted in QF FF Board as I am a QF member, but please move if you feel that this doesn't belong here.

Nothing like some unfounded speculation!

BTW, it's CX. CA is Air China.

Thanks corrected that.

I know its a speculation and unfounded... that's why posted the question.. as I am not sure either. But posted if others have similar experience or if anyone knows anything.

I flew CX over the last 2 weeks 4 times and was greeted on all legs with OW status.... So maybe you are reading too much into it?!

Same here 6 weeks ago. 4 sectors, 8 greetings. Priority bagtags etc etc

Cheers skip

I'd be pretty surprised if the absence of greetings and announcements were the first signs of an exit from the alliance. These are no cost actions so would probably be the last to go.

Total nonsense.
How can a crew not introducing themselves to you equal a billion dollar decision???

- Maybe you missed the intro!
- Frontline staff would be LAST to know about any alliance changes
- Emerald introductions are at discretion of the crew, as with every airline
- In PE/Y the intro job can come down to the Senior Purser and not the ISM.
- Perhaps there were 50 Diamonds on the plane and ISM didn't have time?
- In the pecking order of eliteness, QF Plat will come AFTER CX Gold members

However in saying this... I've had intros on vast majority of CX flights. Hong Kong based ISM will often go a little further and spend time talking to Emeralds.

On another note, last week I had the full Diamond Plus treatment (CX equivalent of Platinum One). It was one of the most enjoyable flights of all time.

Over the years I've had one or two missed greetings and also over the years noticed different wording of the welcome announcement.. Even on Qantas at times they say 'welcome back to our qantas frequentl flyers' other times '
Qantas and OneWorld' others 'qantas OW and Emirates ' depends on who is doing it whether they are reading from a card or from memory. Some of the longer serving staff that I see tend to try and remember it without card.

Yes you are reading too much into it

If anyone was going to leave I'd peg BA setting up their own alliance, and still then cutting back what they offer :p

Not much left.

The Air China/Cathay situation has existed for a while.
It might change eventually but I don't think crew treatment will be the cause

I always make a habit of displaying my QFF Red card on boarding, just to hear those magic words from the CSM- "To the back, you pleb!":D

this happens periodically on CX - seems like they have different templates for the service manual that omit this step!

i would highly doubt they would be even thinking of leaving oneworld at this time, there is too much value to them in terms of through traffic and value to their MPC members. they are constantly under pressure from the chinese carriers who want to steal HKG's role as a global hub for their own ports, OW membership is a powerful driver against this.

I flew 4 legs with CX in June, and was welcomed on 3 out of 4 as OWS (the third being the hectic getaway from HKG after Chinese ATC had held up our departure to MAN, and pax had to be quickly retrieved from various lounges etc. and boarding/take-off was being rushed while the going was good).

But overall did not detect anything different from my long-haul flights with them over the last two years.

Thanks for the comments everyone.

Seems definitely that my speculation is unfounded. It could have been just me

I agree that the OW alliance means a lot to Cathay as they get traffic from JAL, BA and AA. Most of their flights to/from main land are JAL and AA codeshared.

Cheers

Agree. Random speculation gets us no where.

As a kinda reference point i took 2 CX flights in December. As it was a tour package booking i couldnt add my QF WP status until i got to the airport. The checkin almost didnt want to add it as there were no points due to booking type. But i insisted. At the Wing as my BP didnt have status on it they looked at it and said "can i help you" like i was in the wrong place. Once i pulled out the WP card I was welcomed with open arms.
On board there was no greeting. I did see a crew member come all the way to the back were we were and greet some pax but not me. I assumed they were perhaps CX status elite.

On the return leg since my status was now in the system my BP had it on it. Once on board i was personally greeted by several senior staff before and after takeoff. Offered drinks and asked my meal choice by the CSM before the meal service had even began. Checked in with to see if i needed anything such as pillows or blankets. Was well looked after.

So It can be a little inconsistent at times. Could have in this instance been down to knowing ahead of time. Perhaps since status was only added at the airport on the way out they didnt update the crew that i was there. With the return they obviously had days advance notice.
