Will 2 hours be enough time between flights in SIN

Hi,

I am booked on QF52 16/5 that arrives into SIN at 6.20pm, then I have a 8.20pm VF505 flight to Jakarta. Does anyone think 2 hours will not be enough time? JQ website recommended connection time is 2 hours from previous flight arrival to next flight departure so I am crossing fingers. As VF is in the same terminal it is a matter of deplane, (flying in J so will be first off), getting through immigration, collecting bag, then running upstairs and re-checking in. I think all of that will take around 35-45 mins as luggage is usually fast in SIN. Check in closes 40 mins prior for VF flights so I have until 7.40pm to check in, or 1hr 20 mins to get there from airside. So fingers crossed and touch wood that QF52 is not delayed leaving BOM.

Your estimated times sound about right to me - if not actually a little on the high side (immigration and bags are normally a breeze in SIN - esp, since you're in J so will be deplaning quickly)

If everything runs smoothly, then it will be a very easy connection, and leave you waiting around for 60-90 mins waiting for your next flight to depart.

If your QF flight is late, then you may have big issues - but that's always an issue with any "shortish" connection. I think overall that 2 hours is a decent risk to take.

One thing to investigate (and I can't help with VF) is whether they have an airside transit desk. If they do, you could potentially avoid most of the above running around and just stroll there, give them the bag number and your itin, and everything will be sorted out automagically...

I am not sure they will - VF (Valuair) is Jetstar in disguise.

thanks for the feedback. YEs, VF do nto have a transit desk all they have is a number you can call. The issue is QF will put my bags on the carosel so i have no choice but to retreive them. I am confident if QF52 lands on time I will have heaps of time in the lounge, if it does not then yes problems might arise, i have a window i think of about 30-40 mins for delays. might have to try to find out on tiem performance for that flight. i am thinking unless it gets delayed on the way over it shoudl be fine but because it lands in at 2.40am and departs at 10am i have a lot of scope there as well. Normally i would not cut it so fine but my boss is flying with me and wants to get to CGK that night. If it gets delayed we fly there the next day in the morning. For the cheapness of the tickets it is worth the risk, even if have to stay in hotel a night.

The upside is the aircraft has 7 1/2 hrs on the ground at BOM so a bit of fat there for inbound delays at least. Flightstats also shows reasonably good performance from a small sample size (25 flights, one delay of 30 minutes, 96% arrival "on time" ie within 15 mins of schedule.)

Thanks for the info dajop - where do you gather these stats from, QF website ro somewhere else, they are quite handy.

Wow, I was hoping 65min would be enough to enable myself, Mrs 11sjw and Ms 11sjw (3) to travel (carry on only) and go from QF77 to CX 716, allowing us to travel during the day.

Assuming this wasn't VF (Valuair) but a more reputable carrier is this possible if the luggage is not checked through?

QF to CX should not be an issue even if you have checked luggage as more than likely the luggage would have been checked through to destination.

I have 1:45 hours connection in SIN (on seperate tickets) from CX to QF and I think I will have plenty of time to spare unless things go horribly wrong.

I'm not going to guarantee it, but yes it should be.

HKG/SIN and several other countries have a very good customer service attitude. Picking up a piece of luggage from the belt and returning it airside is one of the things I believe they are able to do.

I had a thought. I wonder if QF would tag my bags all the way through to Jakarta if I showed them my flight details when checking in at Mumbai. I will give it a go, the worst they can say is sorry cannot do it but if they say yes, then I need not worry about my bags, in theory...

It is not QF but rather the LCC involved. There was a thread recently on SIN transit from QF to 3K and it was mentioned on the Jetstar Asia website that they had to collect bags and check-in again.

I cannot see why it would be any different with VF (ValuAir) as they are essentially Jetstar Asia.

Very true. They will do interline connections but only within their own schema. I did a 3K to VF connection once from BKK to CGK via SIN and my bags were tagged all the way and no need to collect at SIN even though I had to re-check in SIn for the CGK flight, just showed my baggage tag and all went well. So yes probably right QF to VF or 3K is a different situation. Oh well it was a thought.

true - should have said 3K/VF to 3K/VF interlining only!
cheers, interline agreement handy when doing those intra asia flights. I will post back to let everyone know how my 2 hr connection went. Here's to QF leaving BOM on time or else me spending a night in SIN instead of the Grand Hyatt in CGK....
