Booked in J class for Syd DPS next Friday. Flights booked a while ago and both WP. A little complication is that flights were separately booked but have called Qantas and they are supposedly linked. Clearly not. Seats selected for row 2 not bulkhead that we both dislike. I reckon Qantas have changed our seats multiple times as we get alerts from My Flights. I go in and change them back. Seated together. Tonight we are both back in the bulkhead seat and not sitting together. And there are no other seats together in the cabin. What the heck happened? Someone has flogged one of our seats! There are no operational changes.

Aircraft substitution most likely. Linked PNRs do not keep your seating together.

The only way to ensure seats stay together on QF when there is an aircraft subtitution is to have all pax on a single PNR and assign the seats in a single Amadeus command (not the same as selecting the seats at the same time).

QF's MMB and QF's call centre aren't capable of this but QR's MMB is.

Alternatively, TAs who use Amadeus would also be able to assign seats in a single command if it was an agency booking.

Does this happen when change in individual aircraft? I ask, as QF only have one 73H configuration, and they only use 73H to DPS.

When I look at the seat map that hasn’t changed so not sure whether it’s an individual plane change. This seat change has occurred on the last 2 international Qantas metal flights we’ve taken and while I’ve not called up, our original seats are no longer available online. Its not happened on Emirates and with whom we only have Qantas status. It’s only happened in the last day or so. Just annoying.

Internally I think QF has more than one B73H config. Physically speaking they are identical, but there will be different seat maps depending on whether they need to block seats for crew rest purposes etc.

If that is the case, then that would effectively be processed as an aircraft substitution in the system and cause reseating to occur.

Qantas do have different seat maps for SYD-DPS, as there are typically blocked seats in Economy (due to weight restrictions on the flight). Not sure you can see anything different in J, but in Y some of the middle seats (B and E) will be missing from the map.

Interesting. We're on the same flight, same class. We'd selected Row 2 a while ago, and I've just checked. Our seats haven't changed at all. Both tickets purchased together however.

Just checking the seating map atm, 3D, F only seats that appear open to me (SG)

Clearly they think we are travelling separately and can be split. We picked our seats back in June. WP so we have full choice. And stuck us up front.

Maybe they can only put plats up front, so to make room for lesser beings....

These plats do not like those seats! Anyways, just logged in again and grabbed them back. Goodness knows why they are free again.

I'm sure you'll be ok sitting apart for a few hours? ;)

But I can relate to the frustration. Not good when Qantas seating think they are doing you a favour. Has happened to wife and I a few times now.

Of course. That’s not the issue. It’s bulkheads we dislike. But on overnight flights if you have to climb over someone or someone has to climb over you then it’s preferable to be a spouse if they are also flying.

Last time this happened the F desk said they moved us from solo window seats (wonderful) stating that it was done so that we could be together. Sure. Then why were the unasked-for new seats separated by another passenger. Just an excuse that made no sense.

Maybe you could call and have entries noted in the bookings that you don't want to be moved from the specific preallocated seats.

Not much point really - airport staff don't see the remarks unless they bring up the face of the PNR.

Just as unlikely for anyone to open up the PNR before changing seats. Besides if you requested that I imagine they would throw the "we can't do that because for operational reasons we may change" etc etc line out

it's unlikely airport staff are accessing the bookings currently.

I'm aware of that. What I'm saying is Altea does not show the face of the PNR unless you specifically bring it up and therefore any remarks would remain invisible to airport staff. In the course of a regular check in acceptance procedure, you can often go without looking at the PNR at all.

Same goes for sabre.
