Why being upgraded to first class isn’t always a perk - AFR article

Agree total dross that was scribbled out in fantasy land.

After whinging about very attentive service he 'writes':

As we landed I entertained myself by studying the elaborate handset on my seat. It was only then that I noticed that the button marked "immediate service required" had been left in the "on" position.

On the rare occasion I've used the call button in F/J the FA turns off the button upon attendance.

The lamestream media should stop writing about points, upgrades and luxury travel already - they merely embarrass themselves with stupid articles like this one.

Agree. It's a load of tosh and I'm surprised the AFR ran with it. Maybe that's where journalism has sunk to now.

On boarding a CX flight he was asked to turn right instead of left.
Tell him he's dreaming.

What a ridiculous article! I had higher expectations of the AFR, and The Economist.

As per the OP, smoking was banned way before the concept of Premium Economy arose.

And in any case, if you travel enough, you forget the concept of "upgrades" - they are as rare as hens teeth....

I'm surprised anyone can still yet be disappointed in the AFR!

Fairfax. Better than the cough that passes for the SMH and Age, but still from the same stable of thought-police. I'm surprised it didn't go into a rant about how First class pax were ruining the climate and oppressing the downtrodden transexual bicycle-riding tofu eaters!!

The biggest loophole is - how was there Premium Economy when cigarettes were still allowed on airplanes?

Premium economy was evidently introduced by EVA in 1991 or Virgin Atlantic in 1992.

Inflight smoking largely ended in the 1990s. US regulation began in 1988 but was only extended to cover all US domestic and international flights in 2000. According to comments on FT, smoking was still possible on some airlines for a few years after 2000.

So given your views of Fairfax I'd love to know what you think of the far right wing News publications who have their own stable of thought police, just the opposite end of the political stream as Fairfax?

.. like Phillip Adams, Bob Carr, Troy Bramston, Graeme Blundell, John Eales ... :)

Wait a sec, 18 hours SIN to LHR? Smoking in PE? FA call light on the entire flight so the FA's just kept on coming? Even 8 hours DXB to VIE seems a little excessive. It's almost like the writer hasn't actually done what they said they have done.

Now, now, don't let facts get in the way of AFR journalism. Or "Alternative Facts" as we have now been told.
