Who has been in the audience for TV show in the USA?

I'm planning a trip to the USA in November with SO & was just interested as to whether anyone has been in the audience of a TV or chat show?

Would love to hear:

a) how far in advance you had to book
b) what method you used to book the show
c) any 'must-do' shows or ones to avoid
d) any cost involved

Yes mrsdrron and i have done this-but easy for us as our son lived in NYC and so we were able to get tickets through our daughter in law.
Most of the shows that have giveaways are either hard to get tickets to on dates you are there or exclude foreigners from getting the handouts-as happened to us on Regis and Kelly.
in NYC the letterman show is probably easiest to get into but to get the day you want means standing in line for a long time.

Some can be booked online and some can get just on the day by turning up, but not very guaranteed.

Yes, we have done the Late Show in NY. We applied through the cbs.com website a couple of months before. You do need to have a contact in US that they can call as they will not call overseas. They left a message with my brother in US and I called them back. They ask you a question about the show and you have to get the correct answer to get the tickets (it was about the keyboard player). We then had to queue at the venue at the allotted time on the day to get the tickets. We did not have to queue for very long and all in all it was quite easy and a lot of fun and definitely better than queuing to try to get tickets on the day
