Hello All, I am very new to the flying game and likewise very confused. Not sure if this will help but below I have listed all the programs I currently have and I have recently travelled on Egypt Air which is a Star Alliance member allot this year throughout Egypt and Europe, however I haven't joined any frequent flyer program.

I am a member of the following programs;

Etihad Guest: 80,000 miles and have reached Gold Status

Virgin Veloicty: 12,000 points still at bottom level

Qantas: 15,000 points

HHonors: 2,200 points and is linked with my Etihad Guest Membership

I would like to tap into the experience of this forum, which Star Alliance member should I join to allocate the points I am entitled to through my flights with Egypt Air, also my wife was travelling with me for some of the flights on Egypt Air. Is there a way I can have the points also added to my account, similar to what Etihad Guest offers whereby I am the head member and I can earn points through other people's travels?

Thank you for your time and I look forward to reading your responses!!!

Have a great week!

Fitzgerald

Many factors to consider. Ease of *A status earning (Gold being the lowest useful level I think), earn/burn rates; how steep are their surcharges on Award flights etc.

I joined Air Canada's Aeroplan 2 years ago, just because that was the airline I was going to use a lot, but that was probably a mistake. It has pretty bad earn/burn rates and also imposes high 'carrier/fuel' charges on its award flights, no matter who the actual carrier is. Upgrades are hard to get unless you are in the 50,000km+ status level, and even then there are 2 status levels above you.

I hear Aegean has really low status thresholds, which means you will get to *Gold pretty quick and get *A lounge access.

People are pretty complimentary about UA's program and I've been looking into changing over to it. I think their surcharges on award flights are pretty low.

Sorry, that's about it. If you are a 'casual *A flyer, I'd say look hard at Agean. If you are going to do a bit of flying to Nth America, then United.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

fitzgerald81 Welcome to the forum

If looking to get miles from past flights carefully the check if your (new?) freq flyer program (ffp) will accept past flights. Some do (subject to date restrictions) and some do not. Some may not accept a flight made before the date you joined the ffp even if normally they accept flights x days ago.

Only a few ffp have family pooling of miles/points.

Also look carefully at the miles/points expiry rules.

Have a look here Airlines and Hotels, but is not 100% up to date

A OneWorld and Star alliance ffp are worth having. If you are a lot of international travel with OW airlines, QF may not be the best OW ffp for you.
