Just used my points to book a JASA to SIN next year. Will be first time in J on and intl flight and a B747 both ways. Any advice on which seat to pick? Been allocated upper deck aisle in row 12. Think of trying the nose in one direction and the upper deck in the other.

personal preference is for 16A

Thanks for the suggestions, there doesn't appear to be a 16A on either flight. Row 14 is the exit row on the upper deck, this is shown as row 16 on Seatguru and elsewhere. Maybe the row numbers are changing slightly as they upgrade the B744's? Have picked 5B for the outbound flight and the upper deck exit 14B for the return, preferring aisle to window. Now only 9 months to wait...

Good choices but i'd go 14A as you get access to the side box storage and you can come and go due to it being the exit row plus less floor "bounce" as people (crew mostly) walk up and down the aisle.

Cant speak for 5A vs 5B.

Which date are you flying?

By 5A I mean 5B . Switched to 14a. Now the wait, flying out on Sep 29. Spending 3 weeks in SE Asia. Plenty of time to finalise my itinerary.

Here's a photo of 5B courtesy of Alanslegal . (IMHO it rocks!)

I agree, I did 5J as a solo traveller SYD-LAX and loved it. The side storage box was equal to those at the window seats, IMNSHO. I also had a lovely chat with the FA sitting opposite me during takeoff & landing, even though I found him a little difficult to hear. And I later wished he'd taken more note of my penchant for champagne rather than my penchant for red. ;) But I guess a bottle of red is easier to drink over two nights in a hotel room than champers is. ;)

I had this seat selected for my Feb. 2013 trip from SYD to JFK and was really looking forward to it. The flight has now been changed to the old config so I've had to settle for 1A :!:. I still have 5B on the way back from LAX-BNE so I'll be able to compare the old F with 5B. Unless they change the config again.
