Taking a week or so off in late October, and want to take the family somewhere for a few days.
Perhaps Sydney or Melbourne again, but considering something new.

The wife would like somewhere warm, and as any trip will coincide with our wedding anniversary, I wish to indulge her.

Budget an issue, so the cheaper the transport and accommodation the better.

Where to go?

Brisbane? Darwin? Gold Coast?

Maybe SE Asia? Bangkok/Vietnam etc.

Any recommendations for destinations and specific hotels?

Thanks.

A challenging combination.

Ex-PER, the "best" bang for your buck is surely going to be a 4hr hop North to DPS followed by a reasonably priced hotel/resort or similar.......

I happened to be looking at Cairns/Port Douglas for October. Never been and looks like a decent time weather wise.

VA have sale fares on at the moment to Cairns.

As docjames said, Bali is the cheap option. I note Conrad Bali can be had for a little over AUD$160/night that time of year.

Been to Cairns, and would go back, but can't see her being keen.

Concede you're correct about Bali, but neither of us are inclined to go there again. Guess I can't rule it out though completely though.

And when I say indulge her I mean simply to go to the destination of her choice. I just have to give the options.

What kind of things are you looking to do? Relax in a resort? Out and about shopping? Outdoors touristy stuff?

Good questions. Relaxing is good. Some kids stuff. Beaches are good too. Shopping not important. Fishing would be good for me, so I am happy to consider Queensland for sure.
We'll have to discuss it over the weekend.

Broome should still be good. Even possibly Darwin?

Closer to home, but perhaps a little cold for swimming would be Albany region.

Singapore Airlines have a pretty good Sale on right now for Economy fares throughout Asia including Octover travel. I think the sale ends on the 15th of the month, dunno which month!
Prices as low as $500 into china.

Never a bad time to go to Albany, and it's high on the list. Pros: I can spend a lot of time on my kayak. Cons: I'd be spending a lot of time on my kayak ;)

Noosa on the Qld Sunshine Coast is worth considering. If you're prepared to fly a bit further to Cairns I'd suggest Palm Cove or Port Douglas a bit further north - both are light years ahead of staying in Cairns. Apart from the beach location there's the Daintree Rainforest to see as well. All 3 locations are excellent holiday spots where you can chill out and still find plenty of activities to do if you're so inclined.

Diwali time in India. With good planning a great experience

Do you have points/Miles to make flights free? The latest sign ons to credit cards are doing holidays for some (but not all) of our staff.
I have heard Norfolk Island is better than just quirky but have not done it ourselves.

We enjoyed both Maui and the Big Island. Definitely a good choice. You land in Oahu and don't bother to stay there too long.

Only if I waste them on economy rewards... Although just discovered I'm getting 100k Velocity points for our home loan. Something to consider I suppose.

I'm off the card bandwagon for now cove. Got to pay down the bills left over from Japan, and the dramas of moving house.

Had never thought about dropping off the points bandwagon. I think I was 38 when it started and I had been flying in economy for many years before that.
Definitely not Boston as two nights there would lighten your wallet by a big one (1,000 dollars) unless you go cheap.
How are you going with your new place?
