Where are you hiding all the great steak Australia?

Anyone been to Jervois Steakhouse in NZ? Super delicious! Bit pricey.

I was wondering where the Oz equivalent was or any suggestions for amazing steak places in the major cities??

I don’t know if it’s the cut, the cow or the chef but I find steak really different in Oz.

Love rockpool steaks here in Perth.

Haven't been for quite some time (years) but many moons ago we used to be regulars at the original Ribs & Rumps in Manly. Sadly closed down for a while now but they still exist at a few different locations up and down the east coast.

There's the classic meatfest Vlado’s Charcoal Grill Steakhouse Restaurant in Richmond, Victoria. (Can be exe these days)

Of course recent AFF lore has the Olive Tree wagyu Scotch fillet being up there.

We enjoyed a couple of excellent steaks at Macelleria in Newtown, Sydney over the weekend. A bit noisy, but you go for the steaks, not the decor.

I submit that the best steak is at my house - seriously ... or at your house ... you just need a good quality meet (MSA graded is good) and then a decent method for cooking it. The red wine that goes with it is also much cheaper at my (your) house.

As Ive gotten older, I enjoy medium rare to rare. Im sad about the times I forced good steak to be medium to well done

Vlado's, Steakhouse Since 1964 in Melbourne has to be probably the most iconic steakhouse in Australia.

I bought a 4kg whole rump a couple of weeks ago and cut it myself with a very simple kitchen knife.

I fried some on Friday cooked exactly how I wanted. It was delicious.

I then braised some on the Sunday with onions, mushrooms and tomato paste and left it in the fridge. Had some with spaghetti yesterday. Was quite nice. May have some with rice tomorrow.

The 4kg rump cost $40. Still have more in the freezer.

I have been to Rockpool Perth and did trundle over to the Olive Tree in Melbourne. I can see why AFFers have their dinners there

Cav's Steakhouse on the Gold Coast. They also have a butchery so you can cook yourself.

Vlados was the standout in MEL for many years - but you paid over the odds. Since l Vlado himself died it is 5 times worse - quality still rxcellent but geared totally to tourists at ‘stick em up’ prices - service can totally suck - never again.

Emelio who has owned Olive Tree for like forever personally chooses all his meat - family business with daughters Sonia and Tanya running front of house - best value restaurant in MEL.

All other alleged steak restaurants inMEL fall way behind.

One that is worth trying is Steak Bank in Ormond - a converted old bank and so so - meat supplied by O’Connor Bros and Kevin O’Connor himself a regular here.

Any of the chains line Meat and Wine Co or Squires Loft etc just don’t cut the mustard.

I agree! I’m frequently disappointed by steak here vs back in NZ.

My pick here would be Firedoor in Sydney.
