You paid $1800 ONE WAY:!::shock::?:

I do think that $630 for the return is a good price and I doubt it would get cheaper. Although I have been known to be wrong.

i was banning my head against the wall when i booked it, because i was meant to go in july and booked a return for 1800 but something unexpected came up so i had to cancel and i got the credit, then 3 weeks ago i booked the flight but the stupid website and customer service said i could only book the fare above the sale so thats why! so i learnt you cant book a qantas sale fare using the credit!

I always thought, even with sale fares you could cancel and then rebook a fare of higher value (plus a $200 ticket reissue fee). With this rule, obviously you can't rebook a sale fare for example to/from LAX worth $1400, but I was under the impression you could book the sale fare and then combine with some other flights (say domestic travel worth $401) to take it to a higher value.

i booked a sale fare then cancelled, and thought i could book another sale fare but turns out i couldnt, and the cheapest one way ticket to lax was 1800 flying from melb, if i connected via syd i would have to pay the amount from mel to syd. i thought the same as you, if i used 500 out of it then i would have 1300 but nope.

I had a MEL-//-LAX booking for 30th October which I had to rebook for January.

About 5 weeks ago, I was had to cancel and use the credit for flights in January. These were in the same booking class.

Flights at the end of October to the USA are really packed at the moment going by loadings.

I believe the OP's real problem was that the original booking class was no longer available. Certainly, the total cost new booking has to be more than the original, but online, this is all that matters.
