At the airport for my first flight in F and no check-in staff are here yet. When does it normally open?

3 hours before the flight? The F checkin isn't always the first to open or last to close. Just go to another counter (J or Y).

7:30 when we were there a couple months ago, so probably 8:30 with the daylight savings change

Nothing was open when I got there and F check-in opened first tonight! Was first in there. Arrived really early. It opened about 8pm.

I checked in at 0930 a couple of weeks ago and previous departure 0845, but F wasn’t open so used the J check in

Maybe letting the F host (or whoever it was that called from an unknown number) know I would arrive early helped.

Flying alone so I can guest 1

QF9 tonight for me. Won’t be flying QF10 till later this month.

I can count my QF First class lounge (MEL & SYD) visits on one hand still. The novelty has not worn off yet.

First time flying First though. The rest of my visits were due to Platinum status.

More lounge time than expected. The inflight entertainment has broken down. Needs a part from Sydney. Boarding at 12:30am (estimated)

Is all-day checkin a Sydney only thing?

For some reason I previously thought MEL had it too.

Expert tips: make the most of the Qantas first class lounge - Australian Business Traveller

Melbourne Airport doesn't have all-day check-in, so most passengers on international Qantas flights are limited to the standard ' three hours before departure' timeframe.

But there's a little-known perk for Melbourne's Platinum-grade Qantas Frequent Flyers.

If you're travelling with only carry-on baggage you can arrive at the airport an astonishing eight hours before your flight, as long as you've used online checkin and printed out your boarding pass (or had that pass printed at another airport before a connecting flight).

I have checked luggage so can’t use the hand luggage only trick, plus chauffeur drive bookings can only be up to 5 hours before the scheduled departure time. I chose four and a half hours before.
