Would love to know how it 'pops off' but hey, no investigations have happened yet:

Nose Gear Collapses as Southwest Flight Crash Lands at LaGuardia - Abby Ohlheiser - The Atlantic Wire

LaGuardia Airport in New York City stopped accepting flights on Monday evening after a Boeing 737 landed at the airport without its front landing gear. The Southwest flight 345, from Nashville, had previously reported possible issues with its landing gear.

Lisa MacSpadden, of Port Authority told ABC news: "a wheel popped off the aircraft's landing gear after landing."

I read the front gear collapsed, as if it wasn't properly locked in place. When they finally lift it up will be interesting to see what is and isn't there.

Didn't even realise Southwest served LGA, also some passengers clearly didn't remember the message in an emergency leave all cabin baggage onboard.

Hi Guys

I was on AA 345 to ORD, was heavy traffic & major delays for most of the day due to weather. we were engines off, pre taxi but off the gate, I was sitting window on starboard side, port side was the side to be on. I heard a few OMGs and then a lady said, "the plane is on fire". got a few snaps but not sure how to post. we then were back to the gate and they cancelled our flight. I thought AA did a good job with re ticketing everyone. most people didn't have my view on that

Report out last night suggests the nose gear was first to take the load on landing!

Ouch. Got a link to "report"?

Press Release July 25, 2013

[h=2]NTSB Press Release[/h] National Transportation Safety Board
Office of Public Affairs

[h=3]NTSB Issues Investigative Update into Southwest Flight 345 Accident at LaGuardia Airport in New York[/h] [h=4]July 25[/h] The National Transportation Safety Board today released factual information from the July 22 accident involving a Southwest Airlines Boeing 737-700 landing at New York's LaGuardia Airport. The airplane’s front landing gear collapsed on landing.

  • Evidence from video and other sources is consistent with the nose-gear making contact with the runway before the main landing gear.
  • The flight data recorder on the airplane recorded 1,000 parameters and contained approximately 27 hours of recorded data, including the entire flight from Nashville to New York.
  • The coughpit voice recorder contains a two-hour recording of excellent quality that captures the entire flight from Nashville to New York and the accident landing sequence.
  • Flaps were set from 30 to 40 degrees about 56 seconds prior to touchdown.
  • Altitude was about 32 feet, airspeed was about 134 knots, and pitch attitude was about 2 degrees nose-up approximately 4 seconds prior touchdown.
  • At touchdown, the airspeed was approximately 133 knots and the aircraft was pitched down approximately 3 degrees.
  • After touchdown, the aircraft came to a stop within approximately 19 seconds.
  • A coughpit voice recorder group will convene tomorrow at NTSB laboratories in Washington to transcribe the relevant portion of the accident flight.
