What's the trick to make seat requests stick with QF Codeshares on Emirates Metal?

Did a quick search and couldn't find anything on this topic. When booking in Y on a QF Codeshare flight on Emirates metal you can go into your booking and make seat requests as though it was a QF flight. For some unknown reason the seat request doesn't stick with what appears to be an Emirates auto seating process changing the seat requests and placing you in a random seat typically somewhere way down the back. As an alternative I accessed the booking via the Emirates Website using the QF PNR and selected a seat only to have it changed. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

A few years ago I regularly took the SIN-BNE EK flight in J using the QF Codeshare flight. Under this scenario seating requests via the QF website would stick. Is it different in Y?

Thanks in advance.

I've found that seats selected directly on the EK website in this situation do stick (although they may not show on QF MMB).

My sample size is small but my seat request has stuck 2/2 times in economy. I managed to change to exit row each time at check-in though.

That's my experience too. Select your seats through EK MMB and that should be your seat assignment (regardless of what is then shown on QF MMB).

Agree - also If you don't know the EK PNR, you can generally just use the Amadeus one for Qantas.

Last week MrP's business class seat did not stick. Made through Emirates site as clients booked it via EK. The booking confirmed him as Q WP so not sure what happened.
