So I was wondering - by choice or circumstances, what's the longest you've spent in an airport or airport lounge?

I started thinking about the QP and "same day access" and how you could abuse it by showing up at 5am for a 11.55pm flight and this question extended from that.

I don't have any fun stories. I think I've been limited to about 4-5 hours due to connections or delays. Even that's starting to drag by the end of it.

Had to overnight once in Golden Wing lounge Melbourne when airport closed due to lightning strike and all hotels full due to Australian Open... Not happy as they kept trying to get us on planes so didn't have a chance for a drink until they gave up but then promptly closed the bar. Worst part was waking up dishevelled and grumpy at 5am as all the beautiful people were wondering what a derro was doing in the Lounge.

length of stay: 13 hours.

I'm a small-time player at this. 2006 - about three hours at MEL without lounge access, waiting for brakes to be inspected/fixed on a flight to AKL. Pilot said he wanted to be doubly sure especially since the aircraft was going on to LAX.

2007 - three hours in the old CBR QP (using an entry pass). Should have driven to SYD instead as that was my destination.

2012 - about five hours in JNB, lounge-hopping through all the venues I had access to :)

AA rearranged some upcoming flights leaving me with a 6 hour layover before a MIA-ORD flight. Umm,no. I could drive and still be there 3 hours before the plane.

This is why I find it's important to have lounge access, I was in the Qantas lounge when a light plane crashed at Naia airport MNL. Didn't delay the flight too long less than 2 hours iirc.

I'm wondering how the carriers ike QF/VA/CX handle things when a flight is delayed for a long time, would they grant access to their respective lounges to PAX who would not normally have lounge access?

How long of a delay before they would put you up at a hotel?

Longest was about 8 hours in YYZ Admirals Club after thunderstorms in New York delayed flights.
Shortest was time for a glass of water (from a plastic cup while I was standing) at LAX during a 3 hour stop over - thanks US immigration...

Longest so far is 7 hours in the Qantas F Lounge in MEL (I was connecting from SYD) a few years back. This was my first time, so I wanted to maximise my experience. Managed to get a private office with view of the runway (and meals delivered) and multiple spa treatments -- fair to say that the time seemed to pass rather quickly. :)

Later in the year I'm travelling on SQ F/Suites and I'm thinking about spending overnight (~13 hours) in the Private Room rather than pay for the Transit Hotel or Crowne Plaza. Some guy actually spent 3 days there and documented it in this thread: [SIN] The Private Room at SKL T3 - Page 29 - SQTalk

Can't say it looks half bad. :)

Have often spent 12 hours at an airport as a passenger, happy to find a cozy spot and people/plane watch.

My longest time in an airport was about 7 hours.
We arrived at SFO at 2pm for a flight at about 4pm to LAX and a massive storm rolled in, just as we were about to check in our flight was cancelled then we were put on a 6pm flight which was delayed 3 times so eventually departed just before 9pm. Spent the whole time sitting in the terminal.

I also spent 9 hours in and around Hyderabad, India HYD, but that was so bad as I used the airport hotel for a bit.

About 6 hours in the LAX Terminal 4 AA Lounge be due to bad weather at the destination.

in Australia about 4 hours in Brisbane at QF due to a breakdown.

I spent 7 hours in the QF SYD Int J lounge last month. I was hoping to be plat by then and use the F lounge but it didn't pan out.

In my early 20's I spent 6-8hrs in SIN and KUL without lounge access.

6 hours at JFK with no lounge access due to the incoming QF107 being delayed.

Many years ago 27 hrs at ATH (no lounge access - spent long time on lawns outside airport) waiting for a standby flight - more recently 6hrs ROK

Earlier this year we spent about 10 hrs at NRT hopping from lounge to lounge.
I was cheap and didn't want to pay for the limousine bus from HND to NRT so we flew on the early direct flight from Sapporo.
The time seemed to fly - we tried both F JAL lounges, the AAdmirals Club and Qantas Club.
Loved the JAL 15 min. massage, massage chairs and showers, with the lounge in the satellite terminal being the best - uncrowded, massage chairs facing the tarmac and great wi-fi.
When it closed about an hour before our QF flight we moved to the QC. What a contrast!!! It was full of bogans, standing room only, poor snacks (luckily we had already eaten) and the poor staff had trouble keeping up the supply of alcohol .

I enjoyed our day at NRT and wouldn't hesitate to do it again.

it was somewhere between 36-42 hours in Cairo outside of customs/immigration and then another 4+ on the inside.
I arrived with friends for their flight which left a few hours before mine but I thought what the hey time will pass quickly, then on arrival I had read the date wrong and it was a few hours plus a day, and due to events outside my control I then decided to wait at the airport rather than check in to a hotel... after I had waited my day... my flight was cancelled :(
I am not keen on going back to Egypt...

7hrs at CUN was fairly painful. Especially as it followed an overnight in town, as the original onward flight (2hr connection) was cancelled due to cyclone.

On a recent *A award itinerary:

7 hr transit in SCL, arrived 6am on redeye from BOG. Relaxed in the AA lounge then towards noon all of a Auden lounge filled with Aussies galore on the QF flight, then no so relaxing...

8-9 hr in JNB, arrived 7am from EZE, then connecting to HKG flight. Free wifi was limited to 3 hours!! Too buggered to get out of the airport. SAA J lounge ok, but had a view of BA lounge through window, wished I was over there.
