DJ's version of WP1?

So, I am in the same predicament as many Platinum members. I've achieved the number of SC's to maintain platinum for the next year, some time (10 months) before my review date.

The only incentive I can see, to keep flying DJ is to earn enough SC's to give someone Companion Platinum Status (additional 2,000 once achieving platinum. Currently 1,040 short but will be there by November) in return for QF platinum status (for OWE so I can use QF 1st Lounge for International Trips!)

This got me thinking, what would I want from the next status. From feedback QF P1 wasn't too well received, so I took the time to write to the Premium Member enquiries email, expressing my ideas for what I would like to see in the next status level. Here is what I asked (dream) for:

  • Business Lounge / Lounge Area at Virgin Lounges throughout Australia
  • Complimentary Travel Insurance on full flexi fare / business flights
  • 125% points bonus of Virgin Australia, Samoa & Travel Partners
  • 25% status credit bonus for all flights
  • 50% status credit bonus on flight upgrades (from a full flexi)
  • Standard status credits for all flights when redeeming points or using points + pay
  • Status Match & Complimentary Membership to either: **
    • Delta Sky miles Diamond Medallion (for global Sky team status & benefits)
    • Singapore Airlines PPS Club (for global Star Alliance status & benefits)
  • Status Match to Virgin Atlantic Flying Club Gold **
  • Status Match to Etihad Gold Elite **
  • Bonus complimentary fare upgrades
    • 2 at 1500 additional status credits
    • 2 at 2000 additional status credits – by request
    • Flexi Fare to Business Class at the gate, if available and determined by status credit balance (excluding catering)

** This is a substitute for One World Emerald, which had the member chose to fly with another airline would have received.

What would we like to see as benefits of the next status level?

I know something along the lines of the CL are in mind, maybe access to that?

Remember that's just rumors. However, the function of a CL isn't to reward frequent flying.

it's to reward the CEO or .GM

Maybe they should spray paint one seat on the aircraft silver and then the highest status pax of the flight gets it. That way the whole cabin would know you are the most important person there. They could all worship your status by....

Refraining from walking past you, making eye contact or going to the loo until you have gone.
Leaving a gap in the overhead locker above that seat so that you can put your oversized wheelie bag there.
Refraining from reclining any seat in the row containing your seat and 3 rows forward and behind of that seat.

I'd be happy with a high level of points when flying

At the moment platinum gets 10 points per $1, but let's say Platinum Plus get 15 points per $1

You can never have enough points

Possibly a rumour, but I read/heard somewhere about something called "Invite+". Though it may be more of a CL-type strategy than a level higher than WP.

...

You can never have enough points

The problem with DJ points is you can't use them to make more points or SC'd.

At least QF points can be used for SC earning JASA etc

One, in theory could have 400,000 or more points from credit cards etc, fly all year in DJ J class and never get status. Whereas on QF that 400k should at least get you to Gold (or very very close).

If you want to save hard $ then DJ points Are worth about $100/7000pts, but if you want to bbuild status , that unturn saves $ also, on DJ they aren't worth much. IMHO.

Unless you use them for a positioning flight for a status run. ;)

Concur, now I re-qualified for Plat after just 4 months, what am I saving for?

More points would definitely work for me - I just booked a points + pay Business flight Sydney - LAX for 95,000 points + $400 (approx). To my way of thinking, this makes 95,000 points worth $4,000. I'd love to be able to trade SC for points!

Anyone think VA may offer this down the track?

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

Another way to look at it would be, that If you have re-qali for Plat, then any more SC you earn this Member-Year won't count for anything, your best family pooling those.

Then thats when you use the points for all your future bookings up until your anniversary of your Member year.

Say you funded all your travel to get to plat costing approx $10,000++, but you got X points, - or 95,000 points in your example.

You value 95k points at $4000 (actual value on domestic flights is less) That effectively gives you $14,000 of travel for $10000, plus you get Plat benefits on all your reward flights.

Thats where I see the benefit of DJ Points, once you have reached the Status you're happy with Silver/Gold/Plat use your points until your Member-year rolls over. Then pay real $$ again.
