What to wear to get an upgrade

I thought FAs only gave on board upgrades to co workers and friends.:p

Edit. Although I've seen it done once but it was VA J trans Tasman, wife was J and husband Y. She noticed same surname on boarding and invited him to sit after a friendly chat. Husband gave all indication that he was happy with his Y seat. He was wearing dad jeans and polo shirt by memory.

Had a big chuckle at the pic in the post. Never seen anyone in F dressed like that, private jets maybe, who knows! Back in the 90's, my +1 and I were picked out from a long queue waiting to check in and were upgraded to J on an int sector. We wondered if it's due to our biz gear, little did they know we had crumpled old T-Shirts we were going to change into at the lounge. :D Definitely a thing in the past, no longer applicable.

Although I do believe in some instances the airline's airport manager may have a degree of control in how they sort out oversold flights, but it's not up to individual check in agents.
 
it's difficult enough to get an upgrade when you have status and points!
 
I remember back in 2001 flying EK we were running late for checkin BHX to DXB. My parents, myself partner and 3 year old and sister and partner. 7 all up and got an upgrade to J. Maybe because we are not demanding people. Definitely didn't have to ask so was a pleasant surprise. We weren't overdressed at all but not track pants either haha
 
Even though I dress neatly I must look dodgy because no matter what status I’ve got I have never received an upgrade anywhere else apart from China domestic flights where I have had about half a dozen complimentary upgrades with HU and CZ

It’s from the rapidly shrinking empire of no news dot com what did we expect. And they wonder why news sites like abc are rapidly catching up to them!
 
The missus and I tried dressing up for a 1st class upgrade. Thankfully she got one:

Today I was reminded how dressing well is not always an advantage.Got Rental car shuttle to PHX.We are always dressed in smart casual style.Most of the others were were a little shabby.So guess who the shuttle driver singled out to get their bags on and off the bus and therefore get a tip?
 
We keep missing you drron. We leave on Sunday.
I dress like I am on holiday when I travel. No need for jacket and tie when you already have your favorite seat on the plane
